There is a red 83 long-bed at a local front end shop here. It was there parts hauler for 6 years, 5 years ago...lol The guy that owns the shop has been asked by at least 10 people that I know over the years if he wants to sell it. So i stop in there today with my 81, and talk to him. Its pretty rough as its been dead for 5 years now. The bed has a little rust under the side bed rails all the way through, the motor is there, but everything but the block is in a box in the bed.interior is nasty, but so was mine when i got it and its all there. Has a bench seat. looks like its a 4 speed, but ill have to check. hood is bent up a little, tailgate is a wreck.Tires are trash. Doors are nice, fenders and cab are in great shape, bed only has the rust, no dents or bashed in.I have not looked under it, or opened a door on it. He liked my Toyota, seems he had not sold it cause he likes the trucks. He says, what you gonna do with it, i tell him I'm going to fix it up and make it a custom mini truck.....even if I'm just going to dismantle it and junk/sell most of it, don't know what i will do to it till i get into it more. He has said NO to everyone that has told him they want it for parts. He says, make me an offer......I say $100.......He stands there a second and says $125 and its yours. So what do you guys think? I'm thinking its at least worth the parts on it?!?!
If you had the time, space, and of course, can spare the $125, then you could probably part off all the good stuff on something like Craigslist and make a profit. Now, if for some reason you ABSOLUTELY had to have that year, and wanted to make a project of it, that seems like a pretty good price. Or maybe there are enough good parts on the truck to replace any bad ones on your 81' to warrant it's purchase. FOR ME: even if it was my neighbor selling it (so I wouldn't have to go no further than my front lawn to see it) I'd probably pass on it. But that's me. I've come across a couple of great "project" trucks at pretty decent prices, but have had to pass because they really weren't the years I was interested in investing time and money on. Nor do I have the space to part them out. BUT show me a pre-75 roller in the same condition as your FIND going for $125 and I'll MAKE THE SPACE. Because that is where I'd be willing to spend my time and money on.
my thoughts exactly.....there's a mint 69' near my house that I know runs drives and has no rust but isn't listed for sale.....when I get my tax return I'm going knockin lol
Well, i went to get it today and gave it a through going over. Bad news......frame is rotten to the core on it, gas tank even has holes.... It looks so bad, i don't think you could move it and not break it in half. But..... I have a lead on an 86, do ill be looking at that tomorrow.
Well. the lady that owns the 86 took some pics for me. Asking $275 says it runs fine, needs tires and a tune up. Her fathers truck and he became ill and passed away a couple years ago. They let there daughter drive it for a year then parked it for the most part. Says they drive it occasionally. She was very excited that someone was wanting to fix it up rather then part it out. What do you guys think? offer her $200 or $225? Man, if i get this thing, my wife will be pissed.....lol
Thats the backup plan im guessing...lol Im going to try and get out there on the 3rd of jan....well see
In my opinion, I agree with the other guys, if it runs and drives and looks to be in decent shape why hesitate, you could and can part it out for easily 3 x's her asking price. Buy it and hide it from the mrs. . .
