If the 2J is a VVTI motor then grab it and put it in. It will run better and faster all around then a 7MGTE in stock form. If it is a regular 2J then pass on it as no one will want it.

If it has a 96 or later build date on the door jamb is the best way.

is there a major size difference between the 7m excluding the turbo and the 2jz-ge? i have looked around on the net and found varying h.p. figures. roughly 220 h.p. for the 2jz-ge, and roughly 205h.p. for the 7m-gte. i need help!!!!!!!!!!

VVTI is far from garbage and there is a ton of performance equpiment out there. The horsepower and torque curve on a VVTI engine are almost on top of each other. The motors run like stink. Physically they are the same size as the 7M. The non-VVTI engines are plenty good but I thing the stock 7MGTE runs just as good.

i told my brother about it (since the truck is for him) and he's favoring the 2jz. it might be better for me to go n/a since space is at a minimum on the truck. i'm still wondering how i could keep it underhood. if the stock 2jz is over 200 ponies i think the truck would be plenty fast.

VVT-i 2JZ will have that "cone" look on the manifold cover (intake cam) sticks out forward more

SC300, IS300, and GS300 all have 2JZ's, but the newer ones have VVT-i, if i remember, thats 1997 and up i THINK

I think you will be real happy with it even though its not VVTI. The 2J suffers from one main problem in stock form and that is a lack of breathing. High flow intake and a 2.5 exhaust all the way back with a equal length header and I think you will have a hard time wiping the smile off your face. Its a real nice looking engine also.

thats gonna be tight with 2.5" exhaust since there is only 3" between the ground and floorboard.

I thought I had read somewhere that the 2JZ was three inches longer up front than the 7M, which made radiator choice and placement even more difficult.

give it a shot with a "flat" muffler.. dunno if its even done before, but get a 2.5" pipe and make it ovular shaped? i'm just being creative.... but its better than a rectangular muffler

for that, you'd have to place radiator up closer to the firewall and most likely use an electric fan in front.

not too worried about length. its getting a fully custom firewall and core support. its the height that has me worrying!

yeah i could make a cowl hood type thingy. since i'm using a tacoma frontend it will be a bit higher anyways.

If you're putting the radiator close to the firewall, you've got bigger issues than motor length. ;) I think even the 7M swaps require a pusher fan in front of the rad.

The longer comes from the water pump and timing cover parts mainly. I had not considered that when I made that statement. But I think its only about an inch and a half. Pretty sure its not 3 full inches but I could be wrong as I am just going by memory. But if it was 3 inches the fron of the motor would be just about touching the radiator when they are put into Supras that had the 5M or 7M engine. And they still have plenty of room.
