That circled item inside your air cleaner housing, according to my service manual, is the Hot Air Intake Thermo Valve, see attached picture. Of course, this is from my 1983 22R FSM, but it should apply how it werks... hope this helps 16968033828536276277259011696890.jpg

Did you get this figured out Rad_Logan? I am seeing the question late but if you still need answers I can help you out here. I have a 1980 with 20R and can post up pics. I am thinking your carburetor has been replaced with a rebuilt one and the new one does not have the extra hose attachment point for that hose coming from your charcoal cannister.

Funny enough, I never got that sorted. So yeah if you have pictures that would be helpful. I was thinking originally these loose hoses were causing an over heating problem that came about, but now not so sure. I plan on replacing the thermostat to we do that fixes the over heating issue. But still would like ti figure out where these hoses are supposed to be. Thank you for reaching out.

Here are some photos from my truck. The hose goes from the charcoal cannister to the front right of the carb. When you get a rebuilt carburetor, many of them don't have this connection. I think that's probably what is going on with your truck. Rebuilt carb without the connection so they just left the hose loose.
