Opinions? Kicking the idea of putting one on the truck motor when it goes into the celica. I got too many projects goin on to worry about a sidedraft setup. Kinda like the idea of payin 300 new, bolting it on and go. So are they worth it. I would think so. I know my engine is starved for air. 22R/20R Hybrid. Comp cams 280/280. Extensive porting on head and intake. Lightened Flywheel 20-25 MPG would be awesome! So lets hear it
im not sure the 38 will give you enough juice..did u go with bigger valves? my suggestion is to call LC and ask them, that way you know what the mim is to run on it.. the hybrid i built did got 48mm intake, 45mm exhaust valves, stage 2 cam from LC, their rocker assembly, 48mm intake, 45mm exhaust valves, then only thing i still need to do is port and polish the head. that and i want to get the bigger header from them as im running the street header atm...
Its a budget/convineince thing. Plus I gotta get something SOON. A 500 holley sounds nice. If I could get one cheeps. Ive personally put on both 32/36 and a 38 on 22R, but they werent mine. Both gave a nice boost on old wore out 4wd trucks. And yea I forgot it has that doug thorley tri-Y. Just seein what you guys think.
you can run some huuuge ass jets on a 38. fuel won't be the holdback. airflow will. a 500 is a good option if you get the few adapter parts. a 38 flows like 385 cfm or so. and they are synchronous like the holley. might be able to find a 38 used and rebuild it. theyre simple inside.
BTW, a Weber 38/38 or especially a Holley 500 won't return 20-25 MPG on anything but a stripped down short cab... Expect realistic mileage aroud 17-19 on the highway and 15-16 on the streets. As it sounds like you have a 4x4, the appropriate axle gears will help these numbers. A 32/36 or Weber 34/34 would help mileage, but the fun factor is down a bit. Also look into the Holley 350, same adaptor needed as a 500 and are cheap and easy to find on Ebay or Craigslist (used will be around $75 with a $20 rebuild kit, under $100).
