The W58 came from a car. Changing transmissions from W5x to W58 isn't going to make it feel like you're shifting a $5000 transmission but putting the proper GL-4 fluid along with new bushings and a properly bled clutch line will help make it feel way better. The W58 is your best choice.
The only wiring there is on that trans is the reverse light switch so your question is a bit confusing.
Im not an expert, but correct me if im wrong... Get a W58 from a 4 cylinder celica= direct swap, but shifter is located 2" further back, as well as the rear tranny mount. Swap the tailhousing from your truck tranny or NOT and cut your shifter hole out a bit and drill a couple new holes in your crossmember for the W58 tranny mount. Get a W58 from a 6 cylinder supra= You HAVE to use your truck(4cyl) bellhousing + deal with the shifter/tranny mount issues noted for the celica swap. Its as close to a "bolt in" swap as you could hope for, when it comes to mechanics. The clutch component part of the swap is a little fuzzy to me... I would think a celica with a 22re would use the same components/parts as a truck with a 20r/22r/22re. As far as the supra...idk. Once a 4cyl bellhousing is swapped over, i don't see it as any different than the W58 found in the celica....Am i close?
I ended up turning the trans mount around 180* which lined the forward holes on the mount bolted to the trans up with the rearward holes on the frame. I pie cut the frame mount and dropped the area behind the original mount holes down flat. Then I drilled another pair of holes in it for the rear bolts on the trans mount. Worked out slick!
Differences would be shifter location, mainly. I could go into further differences like the steel sandwich plate on the later 2JZ W58's but I don't want anyone to have a mental breakdown. Use a 20R/22R/RE to Wxx series bellhousing. I used a W4x bellhousing, that's a W series 4 spd. Boom, done. Trans mount, use the one from the transmission and the frame to transmission mount from a manual truck of your year. I had to lift up the rear of my motor, put the tailshaft onto the frame, clock the transmission 45* TOWARDS THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE TRUCK, and boom, it hops up there. Then you just slide that sweet transmission into the engine. You use the clutch that goes with your motor... You got a 88 Yota? Use the clutch that goes with your year and model and what not. Got a 94 2wd 22re? Use that. Our trucks are simple.
I'm in the process of gathering parts for my build. All previous information is valid and very helpfull . high five
