yeah, i can't find any sizes online for what screws go on the choke shaft there, and the nice clerk at the ACE Hardware couldn't find a right size, closest was an M3 but that was too loose and i would prefer no screws fall into my intake manifold. Going to tap it out for an M4 x 0.7 since that will be the best bet. Only problem now is I don't have a bench vise...

found a teeny tiny vise in my toolbox, jury rigged it to the kitchen table and successfully tapped the choke bar for M4s, not I have to tap out the choke plate's holes slightly larger to accommodate them.

alrighty i got a rebuild kit (just going to replace the gaskets for the bowl vapor solenoid and the one for the air horn assembly, unless there are some parts i should also do, please let me know) but now i found this unusual bump on where the gasket mates the carburetor to this plastic plate on the intake, is this normal?? its on the right hand side of the larger circular bore...
    20231115_130517.jpg
also, the original gasket (bottom one in the below pic) has a piece fall out when i was taking it out, the new one on top doesn't have a provision for this unusual bump.
    20231115_130426.jpg

should i take off the plastic mating piece and make it smooth again somehow?? someone oughta know what this is cause i sure don't...

Upon closer inspection, I think the bump shouldn't interfere much hopefully.
Anywho, finally around to 3rd-to-home on the carburetor adjustment, just need to figure out how in the world the throttle/choke/secondary barrel linkages are all set up (EDIT: Fast Idle Cam Linkages apparently, couldn't find it in the FSM of how exactly it goes together aside from an exploded view and some pictures online)

I will upload some pictures of my work done after this post!

Great news, she runs like a top!!! :clapping: took it on a few test drives in the past couple days, 100ish miles total, not an issue at all. Also, I tried out the second barrel of the carburetor (aka true foot to the floor) and it damn well gives it a GREAT boost on acceleration. Only used it in 5th gear on the freeways and it does have a difference now!

although something to note, the fuel level on the carburetor is still above the middle point... but it runs, idles (including the step down procedures on cold starts), and drives fine. should be nothing to worry about :)

Hell yeah!! Keep up the good work!! From the looks of it, the level of gas is within spec so nothing to worry about.

Should be, although I have noticed a slight flatspot when putting the pedal down about 15% of its travel at lower speeds, but then it catches up. Might need to dial in some of the adjustments and see if that can cure it perhaps. Other than that, runs like a top!

Just make sure your jets are set right.. if I remember right, the back jet is 3.5 turns from zero(full hand tight) nd the front one is 2.5 turns. It's a carb so remember to adjust accordingly (elevation)

Welp, been a while but this had suddenly popped bsck into my head after my 3rd visit to a car show locally; an older gentleman with a Ford F-100 and a yellow shirt brought up the point of using 10W-40 (he said he was using 20W-40 or 20W-50 in his V8) after i mentioned this finding of small chunks. For some reason I thought they were bigger but thankfully I archived that here on the forums since my phone from day 1 died :( Woke me up since I was dwelling on the chunks, then thinking if Im chewing up a bearing or some main bearings, what if my oil pump is out of spec, a rebuild!, snowballing my worries at 4:30 am. Oh well. Ill consult my FSM on oil pressure maybe since thats been on my mind now, any other ways to check oil pressure too aside from the idiot light?

Yep, FSM has the section under inspecting the oil pump to use a pressure gauge. Hoping it's within spec but I'll have to determine that once I get to it; after my radiator servicing of course. Speaking of which, does anyone have experience with radiators? Haven't bought any for my cars but I'm looking for something OE/better than OE ideally. Price point whatever, I just need a good radiator!!!

I got a "racing" radiator from Amazon with 3 cores.. leaps better then any plastic unit.. but it does transfer heat to the rad support a bit more then the steel tank ones.. but those are the pricey ones

Planning on it, using my larger OEM filter and 10W-40 according to a guy at a car meet; better viscosity for the age of the engine + heat (Currently using 10-W30) I will also cut open the old filter to examine it too.

Any aftermarket oil pressure gage can be installed on your engine. Tee into the oil pressure sender with a fitting similar to this.

That would be nice, I do know SOME trucks came with factory Volt/Oil Pressure sending units but I imagine finding one now is impossible, at least the OEM way.

Also worth asking: from my knowledge there IS a difference between a 2WD and a 4x4 radiator since the lower hoses are different. Any recommendations (thinking steel/aluminum, but wouldn't the coolant have to be different to since I believe the 22R is cast iron block right?) on these like Summit or something 2wd-specific like that?

Yea the difference is in the height of the tanks.. 4wd sit a bit higher on the rad support and won't let the hood close. Summit makes great parts. Jegs has a good one too.. when it comes to coolant, make sure you use distilled water.. you don't want any metals or magnesium in your coolant which is what starts to deteriorate the inside solder points of the radiator(Steel). Id just use Toyota red nd be done with it.

Got a "High Performance" aluminum 2wd rad, <200$ with shipping. Will do this once it comes in a week or so, need to change the coolant regardless and maybe I'll see if the old radiator is worth repairing since it is/was warped in addition to the fan (might replace this too, it's wobbly) fan clutch maybe, and the shroud. We'll see once it get's here!!!
Hoping i can reuse my original radiator cap with it...

Got the radiator in today, I've been preoccupied experimenting with some washing and waxing solutions the whole day since it's been about a year, but thankfully the bi-yearly cleaning inside and out is DONE! Helps too since I've been frequenting a local car show, this heat is a killer though. First the cooling system THEN the showing off  I'll write up on that soon here!
