so as I mentioned .. steering wheel is in ..

I also bought one of those cheep car covers off of ebay .. it's suposably for a 4Runner .. its basically a generic cover , but I figured with the interior and electroncis going in , and my shop being so dusty .. It might be a good idea ..

also .. got the SUB box mostly done ..

man.. I was expecting fiberglass boxes molded in around those wheel tubs.

don't get me wrong, your normal wood box looks fine , but in my opinion it just doesn't do your truck justice. You have a completely custom drive train, body, dash, seats, and everything else in between... You have obviously put a lot of hard work and planning into making your truck look like it rolled out of a toyota factory that way , I think some custom speaker enclosures like this are necessary to keep on par with the rest of the awesome custom work you are doing.

You need to finish that thing and take it to SEMA and you will have all the work you could ever handle.

    thanks guys ..

Trap -- Yes i know it "looks" plain jane now .. but I hope it to look much better soon .. (did some work on it today)
I did have plans for a "grand-di-ose' " fiberglass box .. already designed and everything .. but looking at it , it would have taken up to much space .. although , this is mostly a "show truck" I will still be driving it to those shows .. so i do need some room in the rear for luggage , and "shinne it up" products ..
This paticular design allows me to attach the crossovers to the sides , and the amps to the back side .. subs in the front .. saving a huge amount of room ..

I have Gel coated the box , and will have it sprayed either in the inferno red exterior color .. ot the interior grey color .. not sure which yet ?

knucklehead -- one of these days I will be at SEMA for sure ..
after this one is done , I have my 2WD to continue building .. Then SEMA is destination for sure ..

this one has a (est) 400HP 7MGTE going in .. already built but not dyno'd .. but potentially 600 HP , if we decide to go that route ? (already built for it, just need a turbo upgrade)

frame is custom built, tig'd , as you can see w/supra IRS + LSD and front IFS w/rack and pinion steering ..

I started this one actually before the Trekker , but ran out of room in my shop .. so it went into the compound :( .. but i'm stoked to get back on it

plans are for a dedicated show/strip race truck .. huge tub'd slicks , latter bars , wheelie bars , roll cage gutted interior w/ some custom fiberglass work .. something like that ..

so with today being a long weekend I was able to get a little more done on the sub box .. Friday I gel coated it .. about 40mils thick .. so I could sand it down smooth .. this will "seal" the wood , so I can continue with paint..

sanded , and prepping for some "hi build " primer

shot with the hi build , and ready for some sanding

and finally .. I decided to go with the interior grey of some of the interior plastics , dash base , center console ...

should be all cured and ready for the subs , amps and crossovers tomorrow :)

looks good... but speaking from experience, you may want to mount all the crossovers on the same side. Crossovers have a tendency to pick up engine noise if they are ran parallel to power wires.

I also really really don't like amps mounted to the sub box because of the excessive vibration, but I'll let it slide knowing you really don't have any other good options.

Thanks .. had some thought in to this as well .. and my reasoning for the grey , was it is the theme of the whole interior , and i really have no other red pieces inside .. i thought the grey was a natural fit ..

ahh crap .. I forgot all about the power wires .. and I was so carefull in routing threw the cab !!
I guess i'll try "shielding" them and see what happens .. as far as the amps .. hard to see , but they are "rubber " mounted .. which also creates an air space undernieth .. i think/hope they'll be ok ..

rubber isolators are definitely better then nothing. Its standard practice for a lot of shops to just slap amps on the side of boxes with a few screws.

I try not to do it at my shop unless I have no other choice, usually only happens when a customer brings in his own crap he didn't look at the dimensions of before he bought online.

space and cooling was a big factor for me .. so I basically had to put them on the box ..

what would you suggest for the power wires .. is there any type of shielding i can buy ? or do I have to do my own .

I can also remove them from the box when I get the carpet in , but ultimatly , because the amps need power , they will undoubtably cross the speaker wires ..

the speaker wires themselves actually wont be a issue. The coils inside the crossover neworks pick up the noise. Noise is also picked up through the low level signal going into the amplifer (RCA's).

All you need to do is put all the crossovers all on the same side away from the power.

running high quality shielded RCA's ran down the opposite side of the power wire is the best thing you can do to prevent noise.. It doesn't have to be a ridiculous $80 a inch monster cable.. just something shielded. if you have to cross a power wire, do it at a 90 degree angle.

I have yet to see a really good shielding to put over power wire, but a high quality capacitor on your power line will definitely help keep your power clean and they make your vehicle run better... The only thing inside the "super grounding kits" apexi sells for $200 is a cap, some blue lights and a ground distribution block.

so got the heater box out today and got it "modified" .. wow what a job .. I wish I had used the correct sterio for mock up in the first place .. I definatly would have made the dash a little different . I left the box out for now as it seem to me , the interior guy would have an easier time getting the carpet in .

on a better note .. I was able to fix the gap around the glove box .. turns out one of the hold down clips was bent over and keeping the cover from seating in the propper position .. Very happy with it now :)

If all goes well , carpet should be in this week

wow, talk about pain in the ass.

I think that kenwood you are running is quite possibly the deepest radio ever made.
