so just to let every one know ..
I "peeled" out the "plug" for the console .. I now have a "basic" mold :)

I still have to "wet" sand ... and wax and polish .. but if all goes well , I should have a NEW piece by the weekend

sorry for the slow progress ...

but today I have a wee bit of an update .

started the drivers door panel , I have to re-pin the hinges , so I will be sure to post that as well .. (hopefully this weekend) but for now , this will have to do

started with removing the door and hinges

Next .. with the grinder "clipped" the edges

and off comes the skin .. there is a few spot welds , expecially for the vent window supports .. but easlily dealt with ..

New skin goes on .. and time to make it stick !!
I didnt have a mini rasp, have to go buy one .. so I called er' a day ..

ok continueing on ... In order to "attach" the fiber skin .. you need to scuff the panel , where it will contact the metal shell , for as the say in the industry "tooth" , meaning .. something for the epoxy to stick to
    fiber panel

metal shell , back to bare steel .

The epoxy I use in my shop is 3M panel bonder .. it's expencive , but if done propperly , it will never come apart , and they guarentee it !!

so now .. epoxied .. and clamped .. just has to cure ..

so now the door is "curing " ...... time to address the hinges ..
lots of play , so time for some new hinge pins .

had the hinges sitting in a pot of deluted hydrofloic acid over night

so it make sandblasting a little easier and heres the works ..

had to cut the pin , and punch it out

next , I had to drill the old hinges to fit the new bushings

both sides have to be done because , the pin is a little larger . File the " burrs " and install the new bushings .. The pin also has to be trimmed , because it was to long .

I "plug" welded the bottom of the hinge , for safty .. and a little primer ... DONE

just have to wait for the epoxy to cure .. and I can mount the door :)

all excited , I went in this morn. to get the door mounted .. removed all the clamps , and connected up the door handle , bolted on the hinges .. and got the door back on

Marked the position of the mirror , drilled and "nutcerted"

and put the mirror back on

Very happy with the way it turned out .. when I trim the fiberglass panels , I always trim them LARGE .. so there is enough panel to make my own panel gaps . it's always easier to remove material , then to add it . So when I do the "final" body work , I will be able to sand down the door edges , to make perfect panel gaps

couple of things to add ...

got the center console drilled mounted , and also removed the dash , and 3 guages , and mounted them in the upper console .. also sent the r door mirror away for plastic chrome

I'll also be re-working the dash bezzle again .. hopefully for the last time

so as mentioned .. center console is now mounted .. got the gauges in .. also started to re-do the dash again !!! I think this dash has been the hardest thing of all .. you look at it all the time , and I'm trying to get the "best" aesthetic value I can ..

I hope this is the last time !!!
