ok .. so back to work ... enough with the "holidays" got the tranny tunel sealed .. did some wrecker searching today and found just what I wanted .. mock up holes drilled and "Nut certed" installed .
got some work done on the console today .. started with removing my template .. I picked up some 3/8" fiberboard , to make my "plug" started with the sides of the console , clamped them and sanded untill they were exactly the same . and started to cut and install the panels , using the patern from my "template" and started to round the edges and the first coat of filler .. thats it for today .
thank you this will be a "plug" .. so it's life is limited I'm making a fiberglass mold from this plug ... paint will come .......eventually .
very nice! thanks for all the pics. i've never been certain on how exactly the custom consoles start.
thanks bud ! ... This is how it all starts , well in my shop anyway .. This console is very "generic" .. and will actually fit in quite a few different years .. even different vehicles . it's going into production and will be a "purchaceable" idem from us . In my Trekker , I'm going to add a padded armrest , guages , cupholders .. and maybe a few other idems .
Can't wait to see the finished product. I guess the ones you will be selling will be customizable too?
yes ... they will basically look exactly like the picture , but actually be 2 pieces (bolt together) You'll be able to do what ever you want with it .. basically just a bace for you to work with .
console has been sanded .. and re-spray'd with "gel-coat" .. and ready for a wet sand . also working on some door skins .. have pics up of those in the next day or so ... .
great work...whatever happened to the Supra truck you were building. I thought that was a neat project you had going on
little bit more today .. got the console sanded down to 220G and started to bare some grain .. so I gelcoated it again now sanded again progressivly to 800G ... and ready to make my mold also .. have been working on the new door skins .. (last 3 weeks) spent the day final prepping the molds for the first product . First layer today .. and will be "popping" the final product for my build tomorrow .
yep .. 2 part epoxy . we recommend and use *3M in our shop , just because they offer a lifetime guarentee on the bond , and we ship World wide , so no issues are good this is the hatch repair skin install we have been producing for about 10 years now http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/hatch_skin_install.htm ..... so basically , the door skins will attach the same way .. I'll be doing mine first .. hopefully next week and of course , I will doccument and have pictures .
