About 25/26 miles from me. In morning rush hour takes me about hour and a half to get there.

 

Theres also the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but its on the Big Island

Do highways 61 & 63 go thru the mountain?

 

Pearl harbor branches off as you can see in the pic. Most of the military is located by the airport and the 99/78 sgins. Thats where the arizona memorial is. But to answer your question yes i do.

And yes those "freeways" go through the mountian. This map is old. there is also another "freeway" that goes through the mountian, the military helped build that one, cause its mostly for them

I'm also looking at Google maps, and I see that those highways go pretty far up before the tunnel. So are those mountains not steap and/or high?

 

They are, but its a valley before the mountian. Try switch views so its on the topograph one or another one, and youll see how high it is.

Can you drive around the whole island in a day?

 

yeah. depending on how many stops you take, 4-5 hours. That doesnt include stopping and swimming at the beach.

Well wait. Technically no. Find Kaena point. There is no road to allow you to drive around there. So you can go around 3/4ths of the island.

Its a nature preserve in there. Its a birds nesting area, so i guess they never made a road through there. The rest of the island though you can go around.

Gotta convince the wife to come down now for vacation
