you got any pics of what it would look like with a 4wd bumper/2wd fenders? The bumper will just not sit flush right?
Think im just going to do a 2wd bumper. Want to do a good job the first time. Dont need to be going to that toyota cruise with a 4wd bumper/2wd fenders and having everyone laugh
Will bernie make the smoothie with a 2wd or 4wd bumper? Hahahaha. Bet you never thought of that yet Well we shall see what kinda bumper i can find first. And its true, wont matter to much cause i havent seen anyone here with a smoothie bumper yet, so doesnt really matter. *Now that i think about it i wonder if i can find a tacoma bumper. That would be sick. Have you seen my other post about turn signals built into the mirror?
my neighborhood sucks..... i've lived here for 3 years and have only talked to one neighbor about 5 times. the drop lower control arms are only for static drops. the stock arms work excellent for bagging the truck and can lay out on 20's with dropped spindles, or you could use supra spindles and brakes (brakes are almost 3" bigger than stock truck), but you have to mod them a bit to fit.
K Bernie got another question for ya. I've heard of people taking the factory upper control arms, flipping them and swapping sides. What does that do? And flipping the ball joints, what does that do?
hey dave, i remember u saying that ur pressure plate on ur tranny is going, wuts that? cuz on my clutch when im holding it down, it releases without me letting off the clutch.. like no matter how hard im pressing it, its like im not... same issue?
not sure why they would flip them. they are symetrical so it shouldn't change anything. and "flipping the ball joints just lowers the truck a little bit (about an inch). imagine this: the two lines represent the lower control arm, and the thing below is the balljoint. ............../......\ ..............l.......l <------- ball joint _________l____l____ _________l____l____l <------- lower control arm ..........l__________l <---- base of balljoint where bolts goe thru to flip it all you do is move the lower balljoint to the top of the arm like this: ............../......\ ..............l.......l ..............l.......l <-----lower ball joint .........___l____l___ _____l___________l__<---- base of balljoint where bolts go thru ___________________l <---- lower control arm sorry for the crude diagram. ignore the dots, the forum doesn't read blank spaces right.
hey i tried i made a nice one in paint months ago, but can't get the size right. i was gunna make a generic "how to flip your balljoint thread.
i got a call from my wife today while i was at work. she said an old man stopped by and said he had a 84 toyota truck he's trying to get rid of, and asked if i was interested. so i drove out to the place to take a look. i was sad just looking at it. the old man was asleep but his son said he just wanted it gone, and was planning on taking it to the recycler. i asked how much and the son told me probably $50. i'm gunna call the old guy tomorrow. i know it don't look like much, but the 84 4x4 was the last year of the straight axle, and the most desired of all straight axles since they are factory re-inforced. the axle goes for about $400 around here, plus i've wanted to put a straight axle in the 88 since i bought it. the bed is decent with no rust, but it's a long bed so i'll shorten the front and bob the back and stick it on my 88. tranny and transfer case are good as well as the rear axle. i'm planning on scraping the rest of the truck as soon as i get it home. about an hour with the sawzall should do the job! anyways here's whats left of the truck
i took this pic at work on monday. just couldn't resist getting a good pic of my badass service truck!
burnie i had questions about dropping the truck but everyone else covered them already. And dammn you always get the deals
