Loving the project! Shame to see mine wasn't nearly as taken care of. If you ever start to think yours in in bad shape just think that mine came to me in the form of a "drift truck" lol. So if your ever poking round a junk yard and spy one of these PM me, mine doesn't have an interior

I found the center grill emblem on ebay it was like 40 bucks. I'm still looking to jack one cause I'm not payin that. I'm considering a custom emblem like the celica dragon or something. I'll have to look at yours to figure out what it would take to attach. hmmm

that silver pen thing is awesome! will do that too i reckon
    cool build man

was thinking about your rubber mat situation, an upholsterer would be able make something to match or if you just wanted a colour change you can buy vinyl paint, it works really well and could be used on the whole interior

i scrolled through it all again. based on the last post, are you looking for a stock black interior mat? i have one and once i put carpet i wont need it anymore. i plan to use some rubber undercoating on the floors before i lay carpet down. and probably some dynamat type stuff to even out the highs and lows of the floor.

Whats up guys? Sorry for it taking so long to get back to the forum. I have a few updates for you guys.

To Answer a few questions, I got the Brochure off of ebay a little while back for pretty cheap

I am actually going to stick with the tan interior it is unique and i think it fits the truck pretty well.

I may know someone who may like a black floor mat.

Any one else have a hard time trying to get a Transmission pan filter and gasket kit for a A30? Talk about hard to get! sheesh

I did some brake work that was interesting. I will update more in depth tomorrow.

    Thanks for the posts guys!!

I think tan interior with black trims (such as your mats) will give it plenty of contrast! tell us how it goes.

hey guys just thought i would do a few updates with some pics

I did some slight transmission work. Now i orignially wanted to swap a 5 speed trans but decided to stick with the really rare A30 automatic trans, it shifts really nice, and it is really unique. It is the appropriate fit for a cruiser. the first order of business was to fix the trans dipstick. I have no idea how this happens but the previous owner managed to break it.
if you look close you can see some JB weld that some one had used to try and fix it. I pulled it out, cleaned it up and welded it up. I applied a thing coat of epoxy to seal any possible holes in my welds. unfortunaly i for got to take a pic before i put it back in.

Next i did some brake stuff. Before i had mentioned that when i had taken a 45 min drive in the truck, my brakes got spongy and i lost most of my fluid out of the rubber cap of my master cylnder. Safty is a huge deal to me, and I don't mind paying an extra bit to make my rides safe. so I replaced the master cylnder, front calipers pads and rotors and rubber brake lines, and repacked the bearings. Everything went smoothly untill one of the fitings that threaded into the master :brickknock: so i had to rebend a new steel line.

Finally I replaced the trans pan and filters. Estimated time to complete :2 hours. Actual time, 6 days:verdict_in:

I dropped the trans cross member and unbolted the pan, cleaned it up. I pulled out the trans gasket that i got from rock auto, only to find out it was the wrong one. Crap, I called the parts stores in town to see when they would have the parts, they all said it would take them 2 days. So i waited, and when i went to pick it up, i found it was the wrong :brickknock:one:brickknock:

finally i went behind the counter with the parts guy to look through the book he had and pointed out the one i needed. Aparently the A40 trans is more popular in the 70's toyotas. So finally i got it another 2 days later. bolted it up and away i went.

I will have to post some more pics when i take em

    thanks guys~!

Whats up Guyz, been awhile eh?Well i haven't forgotten my build thread but i haven't done alot that was worth posting about.

I had a difficult time with the trunk idling with the butterflys of the weber open. Everyone said that it sounded like a vacuum leak. I looked everywhere, until I mentioned it to my auto parts guy, who said that the 20r and 22r have a common problem of leaking between the head and the intake manifold. He suggested that I shoot that spot with carb cleaner and see what it does. it started to bubble up like crazy. So I used rtv and doubled up the gaskets to make sure it doesn't happen for a good long time.

It ran alot better, but still had issues, so I went through the carb again and this time did a carb dip. Then it started working! woohoo!! now she idles nice and smooth with butterflies open, with the help of an extra spring for the throttle return. Most people don;t need this spring, but i have an auto kick-down so i needed it.

This is the radio I put in, It is not a truck radio but it is at least period correct, it is out of a celica. It is just for show, its not even wired up, but it makes it look more complete.

this is just temporary but I wanted something there. RTV spout to save the day!

I am working on eliminating some of the emission things to clean up the engine bay, since my truck is exempt from emission testing. this is my custom ERG bypass plate.

Last but not least window visors, I picked them up the other day at the junk yard, I think they look pretty sweet and i got them for 5 bucks

Also pickup up a set of white hub caps in really good shape for 4 bucks, i don't like them nearly as much as the chrome ones. but they are great for the winter!

I think the truck is coming along great. Would it make a drive to Seattle? I wanna see it at the June meet. PLEEEAASE? I think I have the same radio I pulled from a 78 truck, but was stamped an 80 part. I just grabbed it because it was there. Its sitting in my glove box.

I love this mirror, mine is the only pickup i have seen with a single stock mirror, I do not really understand the love affair people had in the 70's and 80's with giant square mirrors. I know it was an option and they were called Western mirrors, big ugly mirrors, I don't understand..

The ones that EVERY truck had on them, was a dealership thing. Most got them. That's why they covered the stock holes with them.

Awesome job with your truck! Really love the effort and detail you put into the interior.

My 72' came with it's single stock mirror, too. Love it so much I found a few torx screws to replace the regular stock ones holding them down (did my crack-free vents as well) - just to slow down any thieves. :D

I feel kinda lucky that it's there because almost every other HiLux I've come across (in person) didn't have it.
