thanks sean. i know the back is kind of bland at the moment. the pictures kind of play a trick on the eye as the skin is really small. i'm sure adding taillights will help a bit too. i have been thinking about doing a 60's camaro or similar bumper back there since the front will have a chrome steel bumper.

thanks. at severed the pvc on the dash had several people giving me wierd looks lol. seems people have a hard time understanding the plug/mold/splash process of making a fiberglass peice.

thanks ashton. i wanted it to look as close to what a stock fleetside bed would have looked like. it's plain but the whole truck is. i think the graphic the paint will have will help break it up a bit.

i had originally thought of doing some raised letters spelling out lexus, but smoothing stuff out is my ultimate goal. it's getting some led tails for now, maybe a chrome bumper before i'm done.

the one problem i've had with the swap was getting it to go above about 1200 rpms. i thought i was losing fuel pressure and had planned to kick up the flow of the pump. basically when i'd rev it up i could hear it sucking air, but it would just stop firing and drop really low in rpm and then kick back up. i tinkered with it and placed my hand over the intake and got it to run o.k. by blocking about 80% of the intake. so for a quick band aid to drive it into a show i was attending i welded a cap on the intake, and restricted it to about 80%. one major drawback was around 40 mph i could really feel the motor starving for air. after reading your post i did some searching and read about the afm going out of range and killing the injectors.

i looked at the stock afm housing and decided to duplicate the design in my intake. i made a baffle that splits the tube right at the bottom of the afm, and goes down the tube till about 1.5" past the afm. then i capped the unmetered air side and drilled a 3/4" hole as a base. the truck started right up and runs perfect. no more problem getting it to rev up, and it has way more power then with the band aid i had on it before. right now i'm working on something to mimic that white element/screen that is on the stock afm housing.

again thanks for the info! i was getting frustrated with it and had been considering going to a stand alone ecm. if i end up doing the i.t.b.s i'll have to go stand alone anyway, but thats down the road after the rest is done.

here is my starting point. this allowed it to start, idle and accelerate nicely. i still want to play with the amount of unmetered air it's getting since it seems the stock opening was larger, but i haven't touched the truck in a few weeks since my kids keep getting sick.

here is the baffle. i drilled a hole in it that fits around the end of the afm piece. then plugged it from the unmetered air side as you can see in the last pic.










this truck isn't a daily or a speed toy, so if i can make it run decent enough for cruises and shows i'll be happy.

 

got a new windshield installed today. glass guy is my neighbor so he'll be taking it back out before paint as well.

Bernie that glass looks great.. i found someone that has repaired my rust issue on my 82. I just need the gasket for my windshield; something like yours would look great on my truck.

 

all els fails just weld the stock lex housing to the pipe then weld a 3 inc pipe off it so you can install a cone then sand and blend or tig in some nice coin work

ps the intake temp sensor is not showing eather. the ecu needs to know this it's that black stick think that looks like an aliment pin but it's not it's the temp sensor

 

today i finally took this think on it's first real drive. 50 miles doing 65-70 mph going to the Art of Noize show. went over the scary freeway transitions and truck handled them great. ride is pretty amazing.



took these home from the show.



now i'm ready to tear it apart for powder coat and chroming. should have it back to driving in time for west coast nationals in late april.

i've been driving this thing around more then i thought i would. it's hard to pull it back apart after 3 1/2 years of building it. hopefully after another 150 miles tomorrow i'll be able to start lol
