Not to sure on the inside yet, I know I'm going to have a rollcage in there. I might do a tan leather. I don't know yet. I still need to figure out my frame.

well if you have sound welds you should be able to grind them down and not even tell it was ever welded. have you tired one of those flap dicks grinding wheels? i cant think of the exact name they are called

the flap disk is good for frames. when you weld a 22g top you dont want to take that much weld off. and when you weld the metal will shrink, and it worps. so you need to stretch it back. My hole top was file fished. There is no visible weld and it NOT need bondo. there no way it can be dont with a flap disks

yep, file finish and sand for that sweet smooth finish.

but it still won't look like that if the metal isn't properly fitted prior to welding.

So you guys use a file to smooth it out? Ya I've tried flap disks but they take it down way to much an still needs bondo I'll have to try the file next time around.

I'm really starting to get into the idea of metalwork myself. I've done some in the past but nothing TOO serious, but I have an RN16 that I'm restoring so I'll be getting involved in it a lot more in the next year or so.

Threads like these are fantastic for motivation - please keep the pictures coming, particularly any that you may have of different stages of bodywork.

For those taking about MIG vs TIG, the main drawback of TIG is that it is harder to fill gaps so you need patches etc to be cut very at or near an interference fit for a good result. Other than that though, TIG will give you a better result.

I did this work with a MIG, I'm a real amateur which doesn't help but still because it was done with MIG it was harder than it needed to be! The other thing that made it hard was that I was repairing someone else's dodgy work - you can see that there's almost 1/2" of filler on the guard so that's what I was working to repair.
