You might be in the right path to replace the whole rear end. Seems like either the axle busted like sd said or the bearing is toast.
The wheel base kinda moves my drums off set as u can c in the pick I think ill just change the whole axle Yup im just gona change it i think it is a bearing cause everytime i rotate it sometimes gets hard so i reverse and spin again....would anyone happen to know if a taco rear will bolt on to a hilux and also wat yrs are the 8" housing For hilux besides a 4x cause i would not know where to get a 5 lug spline here on guam
The bearing isn't that hard to replace.... I took my axle out with the drum attached and brought it to the machine shop... hot tanked and bearing pressed for like $50? And then you just slide it back in and bolt it up!
yea... the tacoma rear end will bolt up, the only thing is the T for the brake lines are on the wrong side so you have to swap that. the 8" housings came in (as far as i know) 79 all the way till the mid 90's. they were axle code G662. you will find them in base model trucks and all trucks that came with a 4 speed manual transmission.
8" came in 4 speed manual 2wds (3.07 ratio) and , I've heard, 2wd v6s (3.4-3.5ish ratio). Looks like the axle seal is leaking too going by the greyish brown goo on everything. Probably related to the bad wheel bearing.
Yea looks like bad axle seal letting fluid get out proably a toasted rear axle bearing wich will eat into the axle shaft nawing away at the metal until its aloud to wobble or sit different in the axle tub .. Rear end isn't toast yet a new seal wheel bearing and axle shaft ..should get you going Slide that axle shaft out and look we're the bearing rides on it if its chewed up then you'll need one That is if your not swapping to a whole new rear
gearing on the tacoma rears are pretty much the same as the earlier trucks... the 7.5's are interchangeable between taco and pre-taco rearends. the other difference is that the tacoma rear ends are 3" wider than ours. so your wheels will stick out 1.5 more at each side. ...and yes, you can do away with the BPV setup, and swap the T to the other side and be fine.
honestly it really depends on your area. around here, if im looking for one, im looking at around 300 bucks... complete end to end.
Somebody else will chime on how to tell them apart by looking. I can't recall. But, as said the 4 speeds usually got 3.08, V6 usually got 3.5ish and 5 speed usually got 4.10. Also important is width. The perches themselves may fit due to similar frame width, but they got wider gen by gen. Here's the numbers off memory Up to 78: 53" 79-83: 55" 84-88: 57" 89-95: 58.5" 95-up taco 61.5" Correct me if I'm wrong on those. But it gives you the general idea. Can be helpful for future rim choice. Old one will allow lots of dish. Newer needs high offset for all 4 wheels.
get me a picture of the center of the axle (center of the drum) if it has 2 casting lines, its a 7.5. if it has 4 casting lines, its a 8". easiest way to tell... especially if its mounted in a car. i dont exactly remember but i believe that is gonna have 3 ribs so i think its a 7.5.... the 8" i think is supposed to have 4 ribs on each side.
Ok guys just finished putting my 8" rear end hooked up e-brake lines and brake lines and I ran into a little problem my hand brake light won't shut off idk why and I also bleed the brakes and once I start up my truck the pedal goes in I bleed all 4 brakes started from the rear up to the front I did it twice and still the same help pls thanks
are you having an issue with the brake pedal going all the way down after you bled the brakes? there is a way to adjust your e-brake. if you look under your truck near the back of the transmission x-member, you will see the two e-brake cables join in to one cable. there, you will find a threaded attachment with a lock nut at one end.... tighten that to adjust you e brake cable. you should hear 6-8 "clicks from your handle for it to grab sufficiently, and hold the truck in place. as for the brake light coming on, make sure you have enough fluid in your reservoir. make sure when you release your e-brake, that it goes ALL the way down (some sensors attached at the end of the handle stick or wear down over time, it may be coincidental...
Yeah I am having issue with the brake pedal I bled the brakes when I was finish hooking up my rear end pumped it 3x it was hard then bled it i did all four and once I start up my truck it goes in I even did it twice all around started from the rear... As of now when I pull my e brake there is no clicks at all it just pulls straight out Can I adjust it from the bottom where the cables join do I loosen or tighten the screws
