Intercooler for what? If you mean the Mercedes, you can't run an intercooler on draw through. Since the fuel runs through everything, and intercooler becomes a potential bomb.
I lowered a VW Caddy, a diesel Rabbit pickup. I also did a 2.5" straight exhaust, sounds awesome! Will let the pics speak. First shot is how it came in.
Really? I think they are pretty cool. I traded the work for this car. I want to find some Fuchs to put on it.
wow....... so the coil over top hats fit over the stock strut location? you used the audi spherical bearing thinggie as you mentioned? im also seeing a flipped axle...... how much total drop did you achieve with what modifications i can see here? what all did you do for that matter??? umm......... if i end up with a vw rabbit pickup, care to guess where ill end up at?
Well the strut cap I built replaces the stock ones. The stock ones are not rebuildable. I used an Audi bearing on the top, and built a strut cap to accept it and bolt into the stock location. You can bolt the coil overs to the stock strut mount, and still go this low. But the shock is close to bottomed out, so building a raised strut cap, and using the more low profile Audi bearing gives about another 2" of travel. Makes for a better ride quality, as the shock is not compressed as much, and is working with more fluid essentially. Apparently these cheap coilovers (under $300 shipped) get stiffer the lower you set them. So this allows them to be set 2" higher, and they are set 2.5" up from the lowest setting. So without the strut caps, the coil overs would have been nearly bottomed out at this height. In the rear, I did an axle flip, and removed a leaf. And found some shorter shocks, and machined some adapters to make them fit the stock upper mount. Then just enlarged the lower mount holes to 1/2". I also sectioned the oil pan and raised the pick up, since the pan is the lowest part of the frame. I welded the control arms to strengthen them up a bit. I'm not sure they need it, but he asked for it. So I blasted them and painted them while they where off, and replaced the bushings with Prothane pieces. It ended up being about a 5/7 drop when I was done. He wants to get some wide steel wheels and run a stretched tire with some "poke". So I may get the P-slots back, but I kind of like the stock MKI wheels on my car for now. But I really want some Fuchs, or some other old school Porsche wheels.
Damn man you do get some random projects lol. I like how your not just a bagged truck shop. More of a versatile shop
Motor is in, with new motor mounts built. Braced the cab and cut out the floor. Going to start building the rockers, then place ti over the frame and figure stuff out.
Mike brought his truck back to the shop to get a shift knob made. I made a one to his specs, and pressed the stock gear select emblem into the top of it flush. Took bad pics with phone, can't figure out how to email the high res version, since my phone has a 5MP camera, and they are clearer on the phone...
