You're thinking of the L43 naturally aspirated. The L67 put out 240+ hp at it's lowest. It has all forged internals, teflon coated piston skirts and an eaton supercharger. I will have one in a yota one day... I'm picking up the 1uz for my '80 this saturday but for a street rig I'd rather have the light L67 so it'll handle. :D

yup........ thats what i keep thinkin. the 302 waves the most ease to fit in the bay with little modification.

as if im not torn enough choosing

5.3 be fast enough....... the 6.0 would just be ridiculous.......... not to mention fuel tear me a new one feeding that much more motor :runaway:

    L43 is that the 4.3 that are in the S-10 & 15?
    L67 is the GTP supercharged 3.8= 240hp+
    L36 is what I have. N/A 3.8= 190hp

Now to get back to the thread a vortec 4.3 is a good engine its just a 350 with two cylinders cut off. But has to be a vortec! Smaller engine= good fit, and can still meet your 250-300hp range with mods

I just kind of grazed through this thread.

But my pick would be the SBF. Its easier to fit, parts prices are similar. Its a common motor. If you start with a 5.0 motor you are off to a good start with a roller cam, so you have a lot of options. I built a budget 302 for about the power you want for under $1000. Not fully rebuilt, just started with a low mileage block and put in new bearings and seals.

They are more narrow, which is great, and the distributor is in the front, also great. One drawback is the length, the water pump is long on them. There is a company in Fresno that makes a kit to convert them to a shorter pump for a few hundred bucks, which makes things easier to fit. Or if you run the 5.0 stuff, it is a little shorter too.

Be ware of 5.0 Mustang versus the same motor from another chassis. Mustang uses reverse flow pump, everything else does not. So you need to get the right water pump to match your accessories.

    4.6L from a 02-04 GT?
    5.3L like said above?
    No distributer to mess with.

i thought of this........ but cant beat the harmonics of a V8, a toyota with a v6 dont sounds as sadisticly evil when you light it off as one with a v8

i read through your build on the mercedes. very impressive stuff..... lots of work went into that car...... but i figure the 5.0 is still my best bet like you said. it seemed to move that little car fairly well for what it was. i dont need nothin wild....... i figure i may (after i drop in the motor) build a good supportive block for it to run with a supercharger.... but that would be over time...

5.3 is still an option. i have someone looking into it for me. aluminum block and coil packs be nice........ again, more wiring to deal with too but more efficiency and more power...... again again...... cost. as seth has mentioned....... best horse for the dollar is still in the 5.0 ford

power per dollar only depends where and who you get your motor from :)
Yeah, the 5.0L ford has parts. easy. lol

very true. ive never been a big ford fan....... actually, ive never been a fan of domestics worth nothin. but i do appreciate a good runnin machine. considering the ford motor is all due in part that i honestly cannot afford the 1uz swap. its just beyond my price range. the 2uz is closer but still out of reach unless i dump all my reserve funds to get it. (witch may still be possible if i get seriously lucky) by any means i would love to put a toyota v8 rather than a ford but cost will nearly determine everything in this build.

You are correct, I done screwed that one up. Getting old I guess.

Keep looking if you REALLY want to stay toyota. I'm picking up a 1uz with trans complete from fan to tail shaft with the wiring harness for $500 and that really isn't an unheard of price. I missed a complete running/driving ls400 for $375 last year so I dove on this one when it popped up. Don't give up the faith if it's what you want. :waytogo:

It's a good deal around here too not "oh my God fantastic" but good none the less. My buddy I'm buying it from is a Toyota tech that does high end engine swaps in his spare time. I've seen him put the newer 4.0 V6's into all sorts of different trucks. He's currently putting a 1uz in the back of his new wheeler with a hand built adapter to run toyota mini truck transfer cases behind the lexus trans and hybrid ford 9"/dana 60 axles. :D

    put it this way.

    What's your goal?
    1UZ?
well if you're doing something that's going away from your goal, don't do it.

I learned that from my friend. If my actions aren't going towards my goals, I'm wasting my time and money.

anyhow......... its nothing permanent. depending on what what happens within the next month or so, i may just part out the motor and keep looking into the v8 swap........ but i had to jump on this for the price.......
