Paint the back of the star red and polish the inside and outside lips as good as you can and then paint the star a matte black. you will have a slight blend of red from where it reflects off the polished lip. and the matte black wont take away from the polished lip but yet will still give you the color combo you are looking for.
As weird as it may sound, when you go to polish these, you may want to use some #0000 steel wool. Dampen it slightly, put the Mother's on it, and just proceed as usual. Like I said, it sounds crazy, but it actually helps cut your work down a little. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Yea that's good suggestion I use double zero wool on my bikes exhaust then come back with polish cuts your work in half damn near looks like chrome
So I had a question ?!? I got the paint, I got the mothers polish and the 000 steel wool, now do I put the mothers on the lip and then start to polish the lip with the steel wool or do I sand with the steel wool n then do the mothers with a sponge ?!?! It sounds stupid but I not so sure how to go with this....
Also does anyone have any have idea or has done it b4 *on how to removed the old black paint from the star?!?! Besides propane ?!?! Sanding? Or anything I specific that u guys have done?
Homedepot sells a Paint Stripper forgot what its called but you apply it and let it sit for a little and it comes right off (use gloves!) only question is are you powder coating it or something else?
Well yes I kinda want to powder them, but I want to c different looks on the rims first ad sense I have fresh new tires on my 14" right now I'm just gonna mess with them thinking doing each rim different till I find what I like... And thanks for the help I'll be hitting home depot again today*
Oh ok and yeah i would use the paint stripper to take off the black on the star and clean them all up is the black paint spray paint or powder coat? if spray paint the paint will fall off easily if powder coat it might be a little harder to take off with the PS be can be done
Got the stripping started it worked so good!!!!* But not on the inside edges they took long... I had the wife help me out steel wool to take off some of te paint that wasn't coming off she did a good job!!! Here's how it looks and well from the looks of it they are real eagle alloys
Sorry, I'm just getting to answer this, but I just saw this post. Once you're ready to get started on the polishing portion, wash the wheels off. Don't worry about drying them off all that much. Dampen your #0000 steel wool and dip it into the Mother's polish. If you're looking head on at the wheel, use a side to side motion and work on a section at a time. (If you have a Mother's Power Ball or Cone, it will help with the final polish.) But at the beginning, just work in small sections and follow the basic instructions. Something I've done in the past is wet sanded the wheels in stages with wet/dry paper starting out with 120 and working up to 2000. (60 and 80 when stripping clear-coat off the wheels.) When you're happy with the wheel and ready to put the FINAL polish on it, use the #0000 to put the polish on and then hit it with the Power Ball/Cone.Wipe the residue off with a clean rag and enjoy the shine.
Ok thanks for all the help, I hope I ca make Atleast one of my ideas b4 the meet to take one and you guys can check it out... But one more question....*
