I have 2 12s and a 1000 watt amp. I have about 10 or 11 inches on the bottom behind the seat where I have it set now. I have the subs in a Q-logic box now. I may just modify that one to work. EFnetOper, what do you meen by blowthrough?

No sense in doing a blowthrough if its an extended cab. Just make a new box. A lil bit of math, about $50 and some time and your done.

It depends how much volume you need per sub. Ported or sealed? my 12s take almost 2 cu ft per sub. even with an ext cab you would be hard pressed to fit that with the space needed for tuned ports. Unless you don't care how it sounds when you are done.

Wen i had mine i measured and did some math and had roughly 6 Cu ft.

i know the older ones have a smaller cabs but still should have about 4 cubes of space. Most subs can run ported with 1.5 cubes. obviously, bigger box more boom.....to a point.

Every sub has different and specific requirements for sound quality. Volume and port size and length are very specific. To get the most out of your system you need to be pretty strict with those values. 6 cu ft in the xtra cab? Did you base that on the outside dimensions or something? Did you account for subwoofer displacement? Did you have proper length and size ports? Did you have separate enclosures for each sub or did they share one muddy space? Unless you used 1/4" material you would have had to build a wall blocking the rear window to get 6 cu ft after all the above considerations.

I see my truck as a stereo that can also be driven. I guess I have a different perspective as I specifically bought it as a toy and not a mode of transportation for me. I pretty much am doing everything I wish I could have done when I was 19 but couldn't because I had to actually rely on my truck as it was my only vehicle. I now have 6 to choose from.

Anyway it was just a suggestion, I don't expect anyone to blindly do it or say there was no sense in doing it. If this hobby was about sense we wouldn't be lowering trucks or investing thousands of dollars more than they will ever sell for. As I said before, I am no newb to building minitrucks, I have been doing it since the 80s.

The subs I have dont have any specs on air space. I just looked it up to see. They are Alpine Type E. I like the idea of mounting them in the bed and cutting through the cab. I was actualy pondering that. I am trying to find something more on my subs as far as the optimal air space needed for best sound. The enclosure I have now is a Q-logic with 2.5 cubic feet per sub cross ported. It sounds bad ass in the trunk of my Honda, and also just as good when I had them in my Xcab Chevy. I am thinking though since there are no specs on them for air space that I can cut down the box to fit. Also I am trying to decide the best placement for 5.25 speakers elswhere in the cab. Was thinking about the doors, but I know from past experience in my wheeling Yoter that they could get wet. Then there is once again the fact that I am not a small guy and room is limited.

I also see vehicles as a stereo with wheels. I have built many systems, but none with this limited of space. I am used to full size trucks or cars with room. These subs are the first I have actualy bought a fabbed box for. My first system I ever built was about 15 years ago in high school. It consisted of a 15, 2 12s, 4 10,s and 8 6X9s and 3 1000 watt amps all enclosed in a custombuilt fiberglass enclosure I built in the back of my 73 Nova hatch back. Oh and the car wasnt bad either kicked out about 450 hp to the ground. Not bad for a first car at 14. So yes I agree that sound quality is important.

Sweet thanks. I was thinking I could build something like that out of tin, or fiberglass.

Awesome! I have the type 3 Qlogic box running it ported. That helps. It says the smaller sealed produces the best sound, but more power is needed which isnt a problem since my 1000 watt amp is turned all the way down and pushes like crazy even whith them in the trunk of my Honda.

Shuda been more clear, they were outside dimensions and i had the seat removed. When i did the math i just wanted to see how much would be possible. And like i said it was ABOUT 6 cu ft. Never intended to use the entire space. I know subs are specific but for the most part all 12" subs ive read up about had about the same required air space.

Didnt mean to step on your toes at all. Everytime i come into a discussion about audio systems the opinions and knowledge is varied from person to person. Always a good learning experience tho
