I don't quite see where all this "LC motors are overpriced" talk comes from. Overpriced compared to what? Motors aren't cheap. 22R performance parts from LC are pretty cheap compared to performance parts for other 4 cylinder engines (4G63, SR20, Hondas, etc).
You could actually build your own 22r for far less. But, hey if you have the cash to spend buy the blueprinted Lc stage 5 motor. But, I would say slap on a turbo kit and go! More hp for the $$$$! LOL It's all preference my 2rz w/ a 3000 dollar turbo kit with quality parts and lots of potential is putting down 233hp / 269tq @ only 7psi. More hp than a 22r Lc stage 5 motor.
I built my motor for far less than LC's prices. I bought my parts directly from the manufactures and wholesalers, and I had my machine shop charge it through my dealership so I could get the shop cost. My cost 1850. LC's 5200. Wow and to think that these guy's really care about their customers. More like their money.
I guess in LC's defense I'll say that I have dealt with them for a good many years, think I bought my first parts from them 17 or 18 years ago when they were still in Californy and have always had great service and support. Yeah the prices are more but compared to some of the other toyota venders and the cheap junk they sell its money well spent if you compare quality.
ok so low and behold......... i called LCE monday explaining what happened (missing a part that was not shipped along with my other parts) and talked to mike directly. he was more than helpful and added a discount to what i had purchased, not to mention hooked up a few other parts i didnt order but should have..... he also included some other minor extras. he's hooked me up a few times when ive called him...... hell, he even heavily price matched a couple of parts when i was initially building the motor last year. so..... i guess there are different experiences here and there and i'd hate to think that some people have had bad buisness experiences with them but my experience stays the same as these guys have always treated me right and hook it up once in a while. hope this bad motor post dont scare away possible customers as i still consider them a good source of support for our trucks and motors.
motor swaps will always be more cost efficient. If you really want to go fast the first step is ditch the 22r. The point is if you wanted to build a equivalent 22r with exactly the same new parts; Wiseco forged pistons, h beam rods, arp head studs, ferrea valves, 8 new oem rocker arms and a duel row timing kit is about about $1800. I am not saying you can't build a extremely high quality motor for 1800. I am just trying to point out that LCE sells pretty radically modified race motors, with basically all brand new high end performance parts... you can't expect that to come cheap. back in the day a 22r longblock sold for $5400 at the toyota dealer.
yea......... you honestly have to look at EXACTLY what you are getting with that price. also..... with anything, its always cheaper to build something yourself as goes with anything. same thing with baggin your truck for instance...... usually costs you double what to have it done rather then doin it yourself....
Some people have bad experiences with some businesses, thats just how it goes. I know a reputable tuning shop about a hour from here, they made the mistake of ghetto'ing a ls1 swap in a rx7, and it got posted on the web, they came out and said they refunded the money the dude paid them and they said they made a mistake. Maybe LCE should have taken the blame for the engine...
true......... then again. we've yet to honestly see or hear LC's story. we dont know if this is a one sided story based on this guy's post ya know? im not saying its right should it be true..... i believe if this was the case that LC take some action to correct this. it is afterall a smudge to their reputation for what they put out.
