toyota used the term mini truck in their 1973 toyota hilux brochure. they are minitrucks..

man i remembered you askin and i was curious when it started being used too. Then i was lookin at toyotareference.com for hilux specs and seen that pic.

 

I am still in the closet and I am not comfortable w/ the fact that I may be a mini-truck enthusiast.
