What I think is funny about this:ROFL:...is alot of people probably think you're doing 140+ mph, but thats a Canadian car so its in kmh. 140 kmh is around 85mph:ROFL:

I think it all depends on if the stars are lined up. Cause my ol '93 Yota that I had back in '95 with only 35,000 miles on it would only get to 105 mph. But the '93 I have now, (same motor, cab, bed, everything but color) with 169,000 miles, can hit 110mph.

    timing chain went pretty good.
If i remember, it took me two weeks.
Week 1 - I had to order parts and they arrived on Week 2, but during week 1 i proceeded with motor teardown. I didn't park the truck in the garage... Don't know why i didn't. But it was cold out, and i still got everything taken apart down to the timing cover removed. Only problem i recall having is breaking two 3/8th's ratchets. One went clockwise, the other went counter clockwise. Don't use a 3/8th's ratchet to remove the Main Crank bolt... Go rent a 1/2" breaker bar from Autozone!

For the oil pan, if you can't get the front cross member removed due to lack of tools or space, you can disconnect the steering linkages.
Use proper tie-rod pullers or you'll mess up your threads... I had to rethread the bolts, which was a PITA!!!
Then you also have to lift up the motor (i jacked it from the transmission), also you have to unbolt the mounts from the frame. much easier that way... I unbolted from the motor... Which means i had to go back and realign them and reinstall!

When the motor is lifted and linkages are out of the way, you wil have to disconnect the oil pickup tube and filter (4 bolts) and you'll be able to slide out the pan.

As week 2 came, I got my parts and everything is put back together. remember to buy correct sizes of belts and make sure everything is done correctly! My truck ran fine but the only problem i had was a wrong width alternator belt. Then weeks later a loose alternator ground wire.

Other than that, my timing chain replacement was straightforward!

Truck is currently grounded... once again, i lost my 2nd Alternator Mount/ Swivel bolt, make sure you loc-tite yours! I ordered a new set on monday, should've came in today, but it was wrong vehicle.. New one comes tomorrow! Sunday I'll be autocrossing with the pickup!

Dude! I've had the same problem on my 89. My truck was running funny, heating up and shaking, I looked at the fan and it looked alright. I checked the alternator and it was missing a bolt. WTF!

My friend in a '92 4x4 got up to 103 MPH on the I-15, with a toolbox and tow hitch. He claimed it was not very hard to do at all. His is bone-stock with only an aftermarket catalytic converter on it. Just gotta watch 4x4 aeros, crosswinds, and radial tires speed ratings; 106 on mine (R rated), so not going to try it any time soon, especially with police writing up tickets like boyscouts nowadays.

    True indeed.

Truck is back to running! Wichita will be hit with a blizzard very soon!! AutoX might turn out to be Snow-X!!!!

this will be very fun. I'm not concerned with speed as of now, more of handling.

Btw i found my steering damper was LOOSE!! hand tighten loose! almost falling off, glad i tightened that back!

as for the alt bolts, i had washers on the bolt and nut side, while the nut gets a lockwasher! I torqued them to a point i almost pulled muscle! btw i put some teflon tape (white) in the threads. good call?

Mine looks loose, guess I should fix it unless I want to loose it. Auto X almost never ends out here, if we ever get snow, like we did this winter, it's only on the Ortega Highway, and I've seen thousands of races on our 15 freeway, funniest was a SRT-4 against a Lambo, 2nd funniest was a Geo Metro against a Lotus! (the forcefed Toyota powered one, forgot its name...exige or something like that.)

If I only had money, I'd buy some buckets and a 4Runner console from you, would have to be for 84-88 though. Crappy job's keeping me from getting everything I want...

I have a '93 hilux that when i lifted up the valve cover i come to find an issue with the timing chain so i see there is a lot involved.

I wish there was a good DIY for this so i can do it myself.
The previous owner got into head on collision and the dizzy broke and took out the edge of the gear and took out the plastic guides around the timing belt chain.

What a mess just to replace it.. all the stuff that has to come out and right now its almost ready for paint. Check out my build page:

Timing chain replacement and guide rail replacement is a breeze . You'll be able to do it yourself defiantly get metal backed guides . If your unclear of the procedure get one of those chitons or Haynes manuals at your parts store there's enough step by step in there to walk you threw it ..

To help breakdown sludge use marvel mysterie oil in your oil replace half a quart with it or a full quart it will clean it up over a few oil changes ......a quicker way is to use auto trans fluid dextron 3 a whole quart with cheap oil . < I don't like using this method but it does work
