THANKS so much SD Yota i was wondering this for awhile just the only thing i think you lose is the door option because the extra cabs had another light with that switch in the extra cab portion. But you the man you rock nevermind i see the door switch on yours not all of them have that switch
Great write up just did mines! Can't wait to order some LEDs For everyone with extra cabs your splicing the black and black with white stripe wires in the drivers A pillar like SD YOTA mentioned.
I love the lighting in this pic, looks awesome. Is this only with the map light? I'm unfamiliar with any of these trucks and if they have dome lights or not.
This is with all my lights, maps and dome. Single cabs, little map light on mirror. Extra cabs, dome light in center of cab. SR5/ 4Runner has the dual map lights on the mirror. So now I have both the SR5 and regular dome light for my xcab. If I turned off the dome light and took that same picture in the same lighting, it'd be a tiny bit dimmer. Those LED's pack a punch.
Is it possible that it can be wired so it will come on when the door opens ? and shuts off when the door closes..
The little rocker switch on the SR5 light allows that, as far as I know. One of the wires is actually for the door's switch.
Friends, can somebody show how the map lights from the 4runner are removed. I was in pick n pull in Richmond last week and there are several 4runner map lights available but I don't know how to remove it. Thanks.
if no one beats me tomorrow, ill take some pics on how to remove it. its pretty simple. you'll technically only need a phillips screwdriver. you pry one center cover off and then pry the main cover off and access the 4 screws to take em off.
Sd yota, yes please share and i have a better chance of not breaking the 4runner lights when i remove it. Thanks.
alrighty brother here you go. if you dont have a set of these little toothpick tools i suggest you get em, they are one of the best set of tools ive ever bought. i use them for EVERYTHING. use the 90* to get into the little plastic cover here and pop it out. takes little effort. like so... next, grab the edge nearest to the windshield and pull down a bit... it may require a bit of effort since they are pressed around the edge of the housing. pull one end till it "pops"... then the other side... until it comes down.. then the cover comes off and you can now remove the 4 screws that keep it in place. (pay no attention to the two missing ones on mine since its already on my truck)
Sd yota, thanks for the instruction and immedate reply and now back to pick an pull to grab some 4runner map light....i hope they have not yet crushed the vehices
for sure man. if you cant find em in the color you need, i do have one in blue and one in grey if yer interested.
I'm gonna have to start adding these to my parts piles. Wonder how it would sit and look on an older truck. I very rarely use a dome light. Side topic. What is a broadway mirror? I see its larger, but is it flat or curved? I have a similar setup in my 78. It's super wide but curved. I can see all 4 corners of my truck bed and both head rests without moving my head. So wide that since I leave my visors down, it's under the driver and over the passenger one. Ill get pics tomorrow for interested parties.
if you have an issue finding one lmk man... yea, the broadway mirrors come in both flat, or contoured. i like the flat ones since they look better and dont distort the distance of objects in the rear view. i have a 300mm one and think its about perfect... i see super clearly out the back and most of the sides. Nam i believe has a super 400mm one that is just shy of being a side to side mirror option to a "wink" or panel mirror like i had in my wagon.
That's about what I thought. How's the interference with your visors? Mine live down since I feel I have too much cab height anyways lol. My next one is getting chopped. Any visors you've swapped to on these would be the next mod question I suppose.
