Why not build your frame based off of the stock wheelbase you need? I like ot build them this way, then tack some 2x2 under the frame and set the cab on so it sits level with the frame. Then I center the cab on the frame, and build body mounts.

hey javi, the way i haul beds on my lowered s-10 might work for you. i put the bed being hauled upside down on top of my bed, and strap them together. they ride really nice like that, and would work like a camper shell for all your stuff on the way to california. the bed on my s-10 is bodydropped 8 inches and it still works great. it does look a little redneck though.

well, i never worried about paint, but i would imagine some type of cloth would work. as for strapping it down i use ratchet straps hooked to the factory bed hooks inside the bed. i haven't had a problem with dents since the top of the beds are flat. i just get a few people to help put it on, then strap it down a little at a time until its tight and doesn't move. i also strap it an a x pattern so if you were to look in the bed the straps would form the x. it prevents it from sliding side to side. i also put straps along the side in a x pattern to keep it from sliding forward and backwards. once its all strapped it shouldn't move at all.
