Sometimes I wonder if I know what I,m talking about I wasn't trying to talk you out of the electric fan setup, just relaying my personal experience with one. Never know it might work great in your application, some people swear by them others swear at them. I have spent a good deal of time working at getting mine to run cool, and think I accomplished my goal. I have a real fear factor seeing the temp gauge running in the upper ranges, and like to see it on the lower scale even in summer with the AC going. You wanting to do the fan just to free up some power or because of a overheating issue?
Power I want to free up some HP. I've never had any heat issues with this truck. When I got it was being run with practically no fluid in the radiator, the truck was running loud and shaky. I put in some fluid and now it runs quiet and cool. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Thinking about dropping the electric fan in on Thanksgiving weekend, but before I do I'm going to fix a crack I got on the driver's side of the windshield and possibly get a new stereo deck, one with aux for sure.
Just a thought [ stock alternators " dont have enough power for any major or even minor upgrade ] [ If you wanna invest in a electric fan or other power demanding devices in these Toyota trucks, do yourself a favor, upgrade to a high output for bout $150 or less, I did and have never ever had any regrets ]
I have an electric fan from a volvo on my 93: my thoughts, they are ok but really not worth the hassle, the wiring/thermo control can be slightly unreliable, the parts (ie fan, thermostatic control) are not that cheap, and a fan really does not do much for performance except for a slight increase in throttle response. They also draw a lot of power and will cause dimming of the head lights and decrease your alt ability to charge your battery. Really mine has been more of a battle to get everything working correctly than it's worth!
I like the flex-a-lite kit and have been debating one forever, we all know its essential to keep these motors cool and I like the idea of adding one to either of my ride. I dont like the idea of the electric mainly because of yet MORE electrical strain ( Im pulling 80 - 100 with compressors and stereo/amps running ) Plus, I dont know if its me or not, but most every electric Ive ran across seems dainty { more parts to rely on especially if you dont set it up right or something goes wrong } One thing about the aluminum ones, I bet if you got a limb or peice of clothing in them - I bet its GONE - but I trust the development and love the design over the stock clutch type plastic fan.

A new alternator most of the time is better than a used one. . . I got my 150amp model for bout $165; It idle charges 70 amps and full power ( 150 amps ) is at 1150 rpms' . . .
I've had a Spal 16" electric fan, & Centech controller for 4 years now. Works great,can set to come on @ any temp. Draws around 30 amps,not a problem,running a Yellow Top Deep Cycle/Start & a 140 amp alternator.
. . . YA . . . but Gary, your truck is just awesome all the way around, and we know how you roll man . . . My point is for me, I have way to much electrical to be adding more on right now. the technology is there for electric fans and such, thing is, a person has got to choose what fits their needs and unfortunately their budget. . .

I really liked the idea of the electric fan setup I had, it worked fine, no problems other than the fact the engine ran consistently 10/15 degrees hotter than it did with the stock fan, I had a Zirgo 2700cfm "S" blade design mounted as a puller, with adjustable thermostat, plus a full shroud, and yes the rotation was set to pull not push
