Would sound like more fun if it wasn't my daily and I knew what I was doing. The current configuration just isn't cutting it though.

Have you thought of Justdoing a different intake/carb setup and Different exhaust? Those alone could make that motor come alive for what it is..

If its a daily, I would go back to the 20/22R concept. I don't know if the motor mounts on the engine crossmember are the same as yours. But the whole crossmember comes out with 4 bolts. 6 more gets the steering box and idler arm off. Then the entire front suspension is out. Don't forget the brake lines.

With that, using 75-78 parts, you'd also gain front disc brakes. You'd want the master cylinder an proportioning valves from the firewall of the same truck to do a safe disc swap.

I would like a good deal more power and RPMs, if I knew I could get a decent amount out of it I would go that route.

I wish there was more info on the swap process for the 20/22r. I've heard about the brakes and would love to do that (the drums suck horribly) but unfortunately there aren't many parts around my area right now...

I used to have lots of parts to convert them but sold and traded them off. There's a few members here with first gens that use very similar into to covert from 8/12/18r to a 20/22r.

How hard is the 18RC to rebuild? Mind, I have never rebuilt an engine...

If I swap to a 22R how do I go about changing the throttle linkage, isn't it on the opposite side as the 18R?

It is on the opposite side. You could probably get the linkage stuff from a later model like 77 or 78.

The 18rc is probably no harder to build then the 20 or 22r.

The main reason I don't really want to rebuild the 18r is I would like more power.

Well easiest has been beat to death here, but best I think would be the 3RZ. A lot more power, the exhaust is on the same side as the 18R. You would get fuel injection and OBD. If you get one from a T100 it will just need motor mounts and some wiring.

I don't know a thing about wiring though. Something I could run carbed would be easiest.

Lots of EFI swaps just need a few wires to get keyed power to run. Seems the 7m supra setup is that way. A guy is putting one in a 78 here. Check that out. Same engine bay just different stock motor. Those have lots of aftermarket potential and I think the exhaust runs down the pass side too. Can't recall.

I guess that would give me a good start, and I could learn how to build the engine. Where are you located and how much do you want for them?

That's a sweet looking little lux. Saw that one on cl for a looong time. If you don't mind me asking what did you end up paying for it? If I remember right the price was pretty steep.

As far as the motor swap, go 22r block with a 20r head and a w58 Trans. That would do the trick.
