found a 94 frame image.. can only find 4wd frame diagrams for 79-83, they are nice.. this one kinda sucks heres an 85 frame diagram
1. They will bolt into the inner pivot point. 2. Balljoint is reversed (pointed opposite direction) 3. LCA is approx. .5 or .75 of an inch longer. 4. The torsion bar load lever (inbetween LCA and torsion bar) are different. Need to use your pre84 piece and drill a new outer hole. Then bolt it. Strut rods are different. Need the 84+. I needed ALOT of alignment shims because I got epic front camber. A shorter LCA would help a ton, but im not picky. And I have the frame pic for a 82 like the one posted. But no scanner!!
awesome, thanks a bunch from me and probably a ton of people that'll read it in the future. the frame pics would be nice if they had a significantly different mounting location (i was thinking the distance between upper a arm and lower control arm/tension rod might have been different, and would then cause different camber/etc when suspension cycled through) but if the difference is minimal or just in the length of arms, then shorten/lengthen arms as needed or shim as you did, or more involved move the control arm mount inward. etc. etc. skin a cat with your buck knife, or a filet knife, or your teeth,( many ways.. ) so segue to modified control arms... when people make their own.. what ball joints and parts do they use to make them? is there an aftermarket company generally used, or are they scavanged from oem control arms, you can find end links easily, and tabs, and tube, but the ball joint parts i just haven't seen. i usually see these round mount style on aftermarket control arms. so where do they come from? how can we get them, how much do they cost, are there a bunch of balljoint options to match factory, so on and so forth. depending on that info ..i will probably end up just adding another mount to the control arm, making it an a-arm instead of the tension rod setup from factory. but i have def. thought of making a whole new lower control arm, but im not there yet on my 2wd toy, but soon..
Seth, I agree that it needs to be thought out well. But since the 78 and older spindle is the same as the 79-83 just flipped sides, it would make sence that flipped back the 84 spindles should have the same effect as on the 79-83s. I already have a fat stack of camber shims installed with a ton of camber. I'd like to lessen that once i can fit a better rim. I have 16x7.5+45 with a 10mm spacer right now. I'm shooting for a 16x7+18 or so. Probably starions. lol.
If you know for a fact they are the same, then it should work. I am not familiar at all with the pre 79 suspension. The spindle being the same doesnt really make sense, as far as front steer versus rear steer is concerned. But it could be, it was the 70s. They did a lot of stupid stuff back then.
