You got a point, most any bodywork looks good in primer, I just like to add some color before I put it back on the frame, saves having to mask later.

    next up is the bed.

reverse bobbing the bed to center the wheel wells, lowering the side curtains to match the lower cab line, and relocating the rear plate to have the exhaust come through the stock plate location.

That is sick. Plain and simple. I love old vehicles with rough bodies (character rough, not nasty rough) and newer wheels. Bonus points if the wheels are from something different. You've got all that going on - nice work.

    today my bed died :D

with 3 guys we almost tore it off, had 2 bolts kitty corner that still held the bed. trimmed the side skirts and the roll pan off, just in case.

    really?

the 78 has the same tank setup, and so does my 80 4x4.

im still trying to figure out what the plates welded to the fram, along with odd brackets cut off/ welded on and the 2 holes in the back of the cab were for. this truck has had a odd history.

the back of your frame looks like my 79's. datsun did the same thing with the tanks in the early 70's. sucks when i comes time to pull my bed soon. also my tank is on the other side and the muffler is where your tank is.

so i attacked the hilux with my angle grinder and a flap disc.

bondo is gone from the roof, a lil spot on the drivers fender turned into a huge patch over a decent dent.

then i was checking the rest of the cab for bondo and saw a few cracks on the pass fender. think i found a ****load, what do you think.

and here i thought this was a super straight truck. apparently its been through some ****.

got one good fender with original paint (no bondo). gonna hit the yard tomorrow for another, and maybe a grill i dont have to strip.

If you can ,soda blast the whole truck( rubber, glass ,etc.) won't be effected!
Then all the dents can be repaired by the Fiction System.(Goggle it) If you haven't seen this it is a way to fix dents with very little filler & no metal removal.
