Scrub88, that's one of the reasons why I'm a bit stumped, I have pretty much a brand new frame with all these new parts to put on, so I would sort of want to go for it all and do a complete paint job, under cab, inside, etc, like it would be brand new from factory. The whole swap might not start for a couple months anyway until there's enough room in the shop. So maybe if finances are looking good, I can do that. If not, I would like to pull the cab in the future to do so. Forgetting I still have to buy all the motor parts to do the rebuild, plus pay my buddy for the motor itself, trans, ecu, harness, etc. So paint might actually be something that will be later on in the future.

justaguy, I actually contacted the guy a few weeks before I picked it up, and supposedly it was on craigslist for a good month or so before that. I was very surprised that it was still there when I purchased.

Ya well you know how it is in the pnw. If it ain't a 4x4 most people are like ”what the hell good is that for?”

Haha exactly. I have a couple 4Runners so I'd say I'm safe from the share of guys who look down on 2wd and lowered trucks and what not thinking they are useless, but you're right. Then again I've never seen a RN10 Hilux in person before, before I got mine, so maybe the market up here for spare parts just wasn't in demand much.

Not much of an update, few more pictures of the NOS parts though that I picked up a few weeks ago. Hopefully buying the lowering springs and blocks within the next few weeks.

Grille. Could someone verify if this is from this truck? Looks like it would be but there's no mounting spots for emblem, and I've never seen it before, just the black ones that separate into 3 pieces, don't think I've seen these ones where it's all one piece.

    Old parts box.

Box of hundreds of various gaskets, nuts, bolts, etc.

Hilu... aww. Not sure if the 'X' is in the box somewhere. Was this a fender emblem?

Old school oil cap. There was this new one, and 3 used ones.

    Chrome bumper end cap.

    Painted bumper end cap.

Door wing windows. Also have a rear window, windshield, and 1 door window.

Door panels. Not sure what the extra one is from. Maybe a RN20?

Donor 2RZ motor. Looks ugly and mileage is high. But since I'm getting it for cheap, it will pay off in the future already having the ECU, harness, trans, etc. If it comes down to it and I need to swap a new one it, I'll already have experience and would be pretty easy to yank it out. If I ever turbo it, I'll definitely need a lower mileage one.

    Updates to come.

i js PM'd you but looked at it and read it again...that one you have there is 69-70 (1-piece) the 71-72 is 3-piece. The way my emblem mounts is it just pushes through those holes and is held in by prongs rather than screws.

Thanks for clearing that up about the grille, I'm not sure after the whole restoration if I want to clean up the one from my '72, or use that older style one. Still a lot of deciding about what parts I will be using from the current one or the parts truck. Still pretty sure I want to run all the NOS parts, obviously since it will be a restoration, but we'll see.

Update I guess, ordered rear shocks today. Blocks hopefully ordered tomorrow. Front coils and shocks in a few weeks. Then installation.

Rear shocks came in, Bilstein part # 24-188203. Couple people asked for size of them compressed and non compressed. Non compressed measured out to 20.5", compressed came out to 14.5".

Junkyard today had a Mighty Max, I think I'll go with those coils instead of the new stock replacement ones. Heading back in a few days with the proper tools to pull those out. Then it's just front shocks and blocks and I'll be good to go. More pictures to come of front shocks in comparison and the coil comparison, as requested.

The ones I just picked up were out of a '91 I think, but I'm pretty sure any from the 80's into 90's model will do. I don't know if there's a difference between the front shocks, like kmghawaii said, look in the Alternative Coil thread under the suspension sub forum, about 4 or 5 posts down in that thread there is a part number for the Tokico ones which I'm actually ordering tomorrow. You should start a build thread, did you just pick that truck up? I saw a light blue one like that on Craigslist just a few weeks ago, if so, looks good!

I acutally tossed my fronts away, but on rockauto, replacement kybs are as measured

    KYB Part # 343127 (GR2/Excel-G) extended 13.58" , compressed 8.66"

    KYB Part # KG4611A (Gas-a-Just) extended 13.58" , compressed 8.86"

hope this helps CodyX36 and kmghawaii

Thanks, those measurements are good to know! I just ordered my front shocks today, went with the Tokico ones, I'll post my stock ones and the new ones as soon as I have a chance. Just waiting on blocks and shocks to get here and it's lowering time!

Little update, got a pair of Mighty Max springs from the junkyard the other day, I'll post comparison pictures once I get the stock ones out of the truck, here they are cleaned up.

Pulled the stock rear shocks, pretty sure those things were original, they were toast. Here are measurement pictures, they were the just about the exact length compressed and non compressed as the Bilsteins (part# 24-188203) I ordered.

    Non compressed.

    Compressed.

Also decided that huge rear bumper had to go, still held onto it, but come lowering, that thing can't be hanging down there. Also put my Washington State Collector Vehicle license plate on. Would love to track down a vintage plate, but it has to be specifically a truck plate w/ '72 tabs, a little hard to come by.

Lowering blocks and front shocks are ordered and hopefully in the mail, should be here soon!
