I will be attempting the suspension swap tomorrow morning. Hopefully all goes well! If I get it all together, I will post up a couple pics.
I was mostly successful, took it for a test drive and found out that I hadn't bled my brakes well enough. Also, when installing the drop spindles, it messes up the toe-in of the alignment. I tried to get it straight, but I overcompensated so the handling was super squirrely. I spent 8am-8pm on saturday working on the swap and probably 7 or 8 hours yesterday so Im sick of wrenching right now. I'll finish it up next weekend, hopefully.
It works! I've put my follow-ups on the backburner as I have had a lot on my plate the last couple months. I have all the content ready for the writeup i promised, just haven't put it together. It actually rides smoother than when it was at the stock height. Stay tuned!
FFFUUUUU Driving on the freeway today, engine started making a really loud knocking noise... Thrown bearing/rod/something? Anyways, guess I need to tear the engine apart to find the culprit... Any advice? I am fairly mechanically savvy as you can see from all the work I've done on the truck, but I have never attempted a project this big (i think)
Any chance you could list the parts needed for the front swap? I want to start hunting for the parts through wreckers and the likes Thanks
You need everything except for the torsions. So: Upper Control Arms; Lower Control Arms; Upper Ball Joints; Lower Ball Joints; Spindles AKA Steering Knuckles (I installed Belltech Drop Spindles instead); Hubs; Brakes; Strut Rods; and the Sway Bar. All from an '84-'95 Hilux.
15x8 front and 15x10 rear. Got her back from the mechanic, rebuilt 22R. Not too stoked on paying $1300 for it though. The 20R that was in there spun a rod bearing.
