do you run super gas? cause i know here in hawaii thats all we complain about cuz supreme is 4.19 a gal. lol i heard the compression is so high that if u run reg u ping.
oh yeah ill run super. which is 91/93 depending where on the west coast you are. i run it already though so i can set more timing in. its about 15 or so. motor likes the extra timing. old rule of thumb is run as much timing as a motor can adjust in without pinging. unless its too much and the starter fights it. i can put a bit more in. with the new motor ill probably back it down to 10-12* since the compression will negate less timing for the same fuel. but ill also have more power from the setup so its a fair tradeoff. and i get it at about 3.30/gal.
with my stock cam, 22r/20r hybrid, polished chambers and dome style stockers. I run midgrade (91, at sea level) and 14*BTDC. 89 Octane will rattle. Now a hotter cam will def bleed of compression so I doubt even midgrade will be needed with a say 280* dur cam. And Byker, Shooting from the hip, you will be in the mid 9s C.R. (An uneducated guess ) Anything but too high.
i finally made up my mind and bought a LC stage 3 cam 295/295 adv. with .475 lift @ 0 lash. hahaha it wasnt even one of my picks but eh ill see how it goes... lol i will post a vid of the idle BWAHAHA!
Sorry so late, I have tried the crane 302 before. The size sounds big, but the lift is i remember correctly is only 476, so it will drop right in. Crane makes a 292, the durations are split. 292/302, all they did with the 302, was make the intake & exhaust match at 302. Killer top end with the right set up, youll need some low gears (456). My experience though with Crane is they are to soft. Back in the day at Two Lovers, I would change my oil ever 3-4 weeks, to see how long the cam would last, but no more than a year. The one thing that nissans have over us, theyre cams last hella long. But if you want the rock a 280 will do, but if you want a boulder get something bigger. LOL
just giving my two cents to this subject ...I run a 280/440 cam and complete head set up from Putneys custom machine. It makes power from 1500 to 5500 rpm. Its got a mild lumpy idle being fed by a 38 weber which needs to be bumped up with bigger jets since motor is still starving for fuel. I drive it daily so I think its a good compromise for performance and streetability, and just a side note, the reason i picked putneys was their quality of work and regrounding their own cams good luck with that cam
i just wanted my truck to run mid 16's when thats acheived im done lmao. and i have a 8 inch rear with gears in it so ill prob throw the whole 3rd in later on . lmao. lazy right now.
