Got some break in oil and some red coolant this morning before work. Saturday is my next day off, and I hope to button things up then.

The truck has been under a cover for months, so I haven't even seen it in too long. It felt like a dream sitting behind that wheel again.

Fluids are topped off, no leaks.

Everything is hooked up, but she ain't starting. The starter will crank, I can hear the fuel pump running, I can smell gas in the exhaust pipe, but not starting.

I popped a plug wire off, and stuck a new plug in it, grounded it, and tried to start things. No spark.

Coil has power to it, so somewhere between the coil and the plug wires there is an issue.

Now that it is dark out, I hooked up my timing light, and it is showing power running through the plug wires. I do have some fresh spark plugs I can install.

Well, I am an idiot! turned the distributor 180, and she started up. Smooth, timed right, and gosh does she growl! I'm happy to say the least. My wide band shows a little lean, so I will play with things on tuesday (my next day off). There is also some burn off that is coming off off the exhaust, which I expected. The manifold, turbo, and downturn have all been rehabbed, so there is some stuff to burn off of them.

Ecstatic is an understatement right now, time to pop the bubbly.

Good work man! Hard work always pays off!! How do you plan on adjusting the air/fuel mixture? Through the teeth in the afm? Or do you have something else up your sleeve?

Well as it turns out I forgot to torque down the bolts on the exhaust downpipe. That is the pipe that my wideband is mounted to, so leaving it loose is why the engine was loud and why the O2 sensor was reading lean. Now with exhaust hooked up, and the hood on, things are actually quieter than they have been in years.

I ran the engine at 2k rpm for a while to get things warmed up and broken in, then re-checked the timing, and I did have to turn the wheel in the AFM a few teeth after that as things were a little rich for some reason. It was dark so I didn't adjust the valves, but that is the plan tomorrow. Then hook up the transmission linkage, check tire pressure, and try to drive around the block.

Yeah loose exhaust will lean out the readings. I gota get me a wide band, crucial for fine tuning any setup.

Here is some video of things running and revving:

    Under hood-

    Exhaust-

    Interior-

Also went for an actual drive! Went around the block a few times, and it feels good. You may notice some steam in the first video, and that is a leak where I soldered the turbo cooling output into the radiator. With that small leak, I didn't feel like driving too far from home.

I've ordered another rad that is tri core aluminum, and has a built in threaded aux port for things like a turbo. When I install that I will also re-install the transmission cooler, I just have to get some more hose and AN fittigs.

Oh yeah! Around 2.5k rpm things start to whistle and really take off. I may take a vid of driving today.

Got a flat the other day on a grocery run. Looks like i was getting some rubbing on the rear fender. That finally convinced me to get some new wheels.

I'm getting some of the US Wheels Rat Rods in black, 17x8 with a 0 offset, which will have just under half an inch less poke, and not need wheel spacers. Pairing them with some Toyo tires 225x55r17s.

I think the rears will be fine, but the front I may have to raise a little to clear. If i have to raise it too much, up front, I will lift the back to match.

    Always fun to be had

oh yeah, they are quite a few pounds heavier. I had to raise the ride height a bit for clearance, but they feel super solid and look great.

Took her on the highway yesterday, and boy can that engine get up to speed nicely. I've been unning errands and moving lumber, and things seem to be going just fine. Now I just gotta get a SMOG check... fingers crossed.
