I'm down for a PHX meet....sh!t I'm down for an AZ THREAD to...

I'm also down for a TM Calendar! YT does one every year..and ....I made it in this year!! Basically they open a thread where you can submit as many photos as you like till the given deadline. At that point all members get to vote on who should be in until the next given deadline. The editor puts it all together on Shutterfly and you order it from there.

    Here is a few links...

    Pic Submissions

    Contest Winners

    Calendar Release

I know it's asking a lot from the TM staff...I'm sure it's a lot of work. But you got to admit having a TM calendar would be pretty sweet. Especially if EVERYONE had a chance to submit pics.

They did a 10 year anniversary video that was pretty cool to. I was even featured in the video haha :waytogo:

Just a few Ideas for the TM Staff I guess...

So out of curiosity I took a look into the intake manifold. Then for comparison I looked into the 4Runner Intake manifold. They both need a good cleaning for sure but check out the difference. The 4 runner has more of a wet looking surface. Not as heavily gunked up but wet and a little grainy. The pickup on the other hand was more of a dry powdery substance but there was much more of it. 4Runner ran a K&N for about 10,000 miles. The pickup had a K&N from PO. Since then I have stopped using K&Ns and switched to Toyota filters. Any ideas on why there is such a difference? In your opinion(S) are they terribly dirty?

I've noticed oil loss in the pickup lately. Did a compression test and got 155 in all cylinders. Vacuum test was good. I have black liquid coming out of tail pipe. Coolant/oil? Oil getting past rings?

    :(
Some pics I edited on my phone.... :D

i doubt the k&n kept or allowed the interior of the intake to have moist buildup. I would check to see how the pvc was working on the 4runner. seems like it may have been getting some blow by.

also the black liquid, was it just during warm up? how often are you adding oil? you did a compression test but what about a leak down?

The black stuck is the stuff the PVC ventilates. I've seen it in all the engines I've rebuilt

I'm pretty sure the black liquid is only during warm up but not positive. Not sure how often yet...I just discovered it so we'll see how long till it gets low. Today drove about 130miles oil still full. Leak down test...will do. PVC is brand new in the pickup, 4Runner could prob. use a new one.

So I've also noticed something else...when holding around 1200rpms the rpms don't stay steady. It drops rises drops rises.....so basically it revs up and down constantly. I have a video clip. In the video you can see the black liquid coming out of the exhaust. I was doing it for a little while so it made a huge black mark on the drive way. It rinsed of with water very easily right away but if I leave it over night it kinda stains.
    Here's a stain...

Here's what I have to do to avoid stains.....LAME

I have like 4 holes in my exhaust, wonder if that has anything to do with it?...

That is a lot of carbon buildup in the pickup pic.I've never seen the black sh!t out the back but looks like un burnt fuel.Whenever I here that fluctuation when the throttle is being held steady I think Air flow sensor.also disconect your tps and see if that makes a differance.

Everyone's input is appreciated guys thanks! :clapping:

So fixed the issue with the unsteady rpms. Had to adjust the TPS. I will admit I was a bit intimidated after reading the how to, but with a good dvom It's not that hard. It helps to have one person hold the wires while the other moves the sensor up or down. Ive noticed a huge difference since the adjustment. Very steady idle, no more jerks when releasing gas pedal quickly, and just a smoother feeling throttle.
A shot of them Throttle Position Sensor.

Made a stop at the stealership and got a Toyota PCV valve, PCV grommets, PVC hose, and Toyota thermostat. Wow what a difference on the thermostat...It's like 3 times heavier then the cheapy. Got rid of the cheap one I had in there because I know it was not opening at the right temp. for a 22re. Factory is 195 degrees I believe... where as the cheap one I had was opening 160 degrees not allowing the motor to warm up properly. Since switching to Toyota thermo. I've noticed the truck running smoother. The truck feels calmer if you will. It's not always trying to warm up. The temp. gauge actually works who knew! It rises to just below the half way point where as before it never moved at all from C....and the heater pff...that thing can melt my shoes now haha.

    The old cracked PCV hose.

Also going to pick up today TRD rad. cap (the right one this time), PCV vent, and PCV for the 4runner.

I just finished my first tank since doing all this and got 27.38mpgs!! The best I've ever got in a 22re. LOL So truck seems to be running well. Which is good because Tomorrow will be day one of the "Head Gasket/STI Steering Rack" project on the Suby. :waytogo:

Man...what did I ever do without a pick up in my life?....Yesterday rented a engine hoist...today returning it and buying an engine stand. Non of this stuff would be easily moved in the 4 runner. It sits higher...has less room...and I would FREAK if anything got scratched or dinged lol. The hoist and stand is for the Subaru project. replacing head gaskets and installing a new upgraded steering rack.

Yeah were already stuck. Need the tool to get the camshafts off.

TRD Rad. cap was 38$!!! Shizza that sh!t was expensive.....but I likey...

Aside form not having the camshaft tool everything is going smoth so far. I'm not really worried about the head gasket job. More worried about the STI rack going in the legacy.

Couldn't get anything done on the Legacy yesterday so I worked a little on the mini. As happy as I was with my sound system...it just wasn't enough. It did not have enough clarity for me....I'm a metal head guitar playin music guy so sh!ts gotta sound clear it it has to be loud. Which also became a prob. because after vol.30 the amp would turn off from getting too hot. I had the same issue with the 300watt JBL in the 4 runner. So what I did was took the amp from the 4runner and used it on the 2 6x9s in the mini. This should work out great because that's more than enough power for just 2 6x9s. To fix the clarity issue I bought a new deck :D Alpine baby!! whoooo what a difference. Pics later....

Junkyard trip this past weekend...got a few goodies.

OEM Toyota deck light switch for my fog lights. I hated the black auto zone crap one. Wired it in using heat shrink butt connectors.

and picked up the corners which I was hoping to use to replace the clear ones I have but they don't fit :( I just painted them to... They will be for sale HERE.

Last week my tailgate handle broke. Ordered an aftermarket replacement from Amazon. It was cheap and had good reviews. It's OEM spec. looks great and works...easy install.

I cleaned everything using WD and regrease all the areas that need be greased. opens and closes nice and smooth now.

Also from the junkyard I picked up this cup holder/coin holder from a 90's Ford Taurus. I'm going to be using it on my 95 4Runner but just fyi for anyone lookin to do this on a mini. It replaces the single den empty bay under the stereo.
