OMFG.... I just found out it comes from a 4spd... and I bought it a while back.... *BLEEP!!!!* someone please tells me this can miraculously work... ordered an Exedy slave cylinder and pilot bearing from RockAuto. From marlin crawler, i ordered some bolts for the clutch and shifter bushings. This is pretty stressful.... exedy master cyl won't be here til the 20th?!?!! I hate ordering parts.
Issues. Got a 4 spd bellhousing... sigh. it's on the way. Pedals! - Some local guy has a pedal set from an 87, Do these work with my 94???? please let me know. Driveshaft... Going to junkyards and looking for one. LWB it is..
Got a 86 pedal setup. looks very close and similar. I may do some slight fabrication. Does anyone know if I can use a 4wd 5spd bellhousing from a 22r for my W58?
edit: as long as it was a w series it should fit, looks the same as mine when i swapped it. i didnt know they made a 4 speed with that bolt pattent to it.
Thanks man. I guess I'll just have to wait on the current bellhousing to come in and test it out This project is such a headache.
Allrrriigghhhhtt! Automatic is still in the truck, i think it's got the majority drained. Master and slave cylinders are here. Pedals from a 1986 manual with pins and springs are here. Clutch kit and flywheel are here. (Two pilot bearings.. sigh..) Bellhousing has arrived and lines up to the transmission. 22R 4spd bellhousing to SC300 W58. I'm awaiting the parts from Marlin Crawler now. I need clutch line and driveshaft. 1. Can I use the bolts that hold the flexplate to the engine, for the flywheel? 2. I may modify my 2JZ-GE W58's clutch fork to work with the 22R bellhousing. 3. I think I'll unbolt the center driveshaft support and redrill it an inch or so. I remember putting in my V6 8" axle, it wanted to push my driveshaft forward... genius! Theoretically as long I bolt it and torque it down, it should work. 4. Pedals should work... Alright, I'll also need fluid for the transmission.
Automatic and manual flywheels are to my knowledge always different so no recycling of bolts for that. As for the fluid whatever the factory manual specified... 85-140?
I was hoping the bolts that hold the flex plate to the engine would work with the flywheel. I should've ordered them from LCEngineering. Two options! : 1. Order from Toyota? 2. Go to local hardware store with large selection of metric bolts and use their grade 8.8 bolts? What size are the flywheel bolts? I read M11x1.25? Since when did TOYOTA USE M11!? Thanks in advance!
i bet your throttle valve cable was stuck.... my auto did the same thing, so i swapped to 5speed, and figured out after it was a 100 dollar cable... oh well clutch is more fun...
Sweet. I got the transmission and bellhousing put together. so far I dropped the driveshafts and unbolted the trans mount. I unbolted two bellhousing bolts and the four support bolts. I took off the cooler lines. I unclipped the throttle cable from the brackets on the manifold. I got the speedo cable out. last of all, got the neutral start switch thing popped out, at the same time slicing into my knuckle... that was BAD. so that's the tear down for today... as far as I can get. W58 - bolted up in star pattern. W58 with 500hp mod to the rear wheels Can't forget the matching one. Old cooler lines and all of the bottles are filled with old ATF... here she sits as of now. Be careful taking off the neutral start switch... The trans oil pan attacked my knuckle Busted knuckle, shot myself out from under the truck, jumped in the air and ran inside like a ********************************************* and kept it under water with pressure on the flap of skin... went upstairs with left hand holding right finger. got the box of stuff, flopped it open, and using my right hand to hold a bandaid in place, i opened it with my mouth. placed it on there, sweet, go back to restroom to clean the rest of the oil and **** off my hands, and then went back up to properly add neosporin and a better bandaid. :sigh: FML, this sucks.
Those top ones suck... use to wrenchs attached together and hit them with a hammer... they are tight and there is no leverage on them at all.. Also like B.Y.E said, toyota used the same bolts, they just added spacers on the flexplate. Also don't forget the bracket that the mount bolted to. Its bolted to the crossmember, that has to come out. Good luck, my truck attacked my trigger finger.. i've since had to switch shooting hands..
Top bolts: Remove the trans mount and bracket (you'll need a jack to lift it slightly). Let it down slowly and let the tail section rest on the crossmember. The weight will tilt it back to give you more room to work with. Now, get yourself a 2 or 3" extension bar with a 17mm wobble socket. I got this down enough that I don't need to remove the trans mount, it takes a little finesse/fishing with the extension but works like magic! Note: don't forget to transfer the starter stud to the new bellhousing, it will help you line it up during install. Also make sure the dowel pins are either on the bell housing or the block. I swapped a trans once that had dowel pins on both and for the life of me couldn't figure out why it wouldn't go in the last inch!
^^ I'll definitely get on that install part! So after all of my shoving and bussin' and a fussin', Going from the top or sides didn't work for me, AT ALL. I decided to lower the engine since jacking it up pushed it up and forward, but more up than anything else. I used my long extension + two shorties + swivel on socket to go from the bottom/ side. I sat in the wheel well. *totally dangerous nonetheless* and with all the auto accessories off, I went up the side of the transmission to get to the bellhousing bolts. It's easier since I don't have my splash guards on it, too! I did the same for the other side, pulling all wireharnesses away. Since I didn't care about the auto, i literally just dropped it out of the truck. :continued: Soooo my shifter bushings and pressure plate bolts came in today. last few steps are... clutch line, clutch fluid... and driveshaft.... I thought I could try to get by... but the length difference between the two was greater than i thought. I really really need to find a driveshaft and it's impossible around here! and how about the transmission mount? :/
The plate sucks to find.. but any truck with a manual in it will do. the driveline, all you need is the front piece(ext. cab short bed, or standard cab long bed will work) if you have a std, short than you need a whole driveline.
1. At this point I think I may take the driveshaft to a shop and have them extend it and balance it... replacing would be nice.. 2. Does anyone have a closeup picture of the clutch fork from their 22re manual? the 2JZ-GE manual clutch fork has a different notch in it for the clip for the throw out bearing. I'm going to modify it... Shifter seat and cup were a TIGHT fit to put into the thing. it's in there and seems better than the deteriorated stock shifter seat.
