Pulling the motor for a re-freash and replace the stock iron rings with molly rings
    [IMG]

    Head work

The exhaust valve has been lapped in and notice nice thick contact area for better cooling where as the intake being smaller for better flow

Right is stock, left is factory replacement.

Years ago my dad and I tore down the 350 in an early 80's caprice that had just driven straight outta mexico. It ran but made all sorts of lovely noises and was down on power. Once we had it apart we knew why, the headgaskets were original and USED but they smeared weatherstripping adhesive on both sides before assembly. they used at least 3 tubes of silicone when putting everything else together and the best part had to be .040" piston in one cylinder while the other 7 were stock bore.

The best part about the oddball piston is that everything you have been taught to be true will now come into question. It's common knowledge that you HAVE to run a matched set of pistons or catastrophic engine wear and damage will happen in a short amount of miles. Right, RIGHT!?!?

No big deal just get another set of pistons with the correct bore and toss them in with a fresh set of rings and a hone job. No need to freak out, cast pistons are cheap. :D

This is what my pistons looked like after pulling them out

    Turbo oil drain with cap

stock piston with sanding done to remove bad casting marks (but now getting throw away)

I had my block decked but found out the RA finish was not good enough for MLS gasket and it was not flat as well so I had to send it back. I am glad checked the block with flat edge.

I had it honed for molly rings, the only down side is the bores are out of round by half a thou but this is not enough for it to be an oil pumper aka burner

Well I think i have huge rain cloud over my head some times turns out my hasting rings have to much gap for the first comp ring .022 spec is like 9 to 18 or some thing like that can't remember proper spec right now right now the bottom ring is good just need to file it abit.

My end trust freeplay is only 006 min is 008 so it's far to tight but get this i just put my old thrust washer in and it clocks at 004 ?????

This gets me thinking that some one just threw all new stuff in last time it was apart and did not measure a thing

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR this was supposet to be easy but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
and I hate 4 peace trust washer's they are a pain to sand down

All post pic's when I get home when I go drink my self to sleep
