Just keep your boost at conservative levels until you can upgrade you engine management system.

Make sure that you get all the proper gauges to monitor your engine so you can shut it down as soon as a problem develops. You WILL need a a/f gauge, EGT gauge, fuel pressure to start.

I'm running a stock 22rte with an early celica ecu. So far so good but I will be investing in msd with boost retard and I will replace my cheap narrow band A/F gauge with a wide band.

Goodluck with the build and goodluck finding traction on the road...

man 170 to the ground should be cake for that engine. lce put down 190 with 10 psi i think in a 4runner prerunner. they said that it should put out more in a smaller street truck. and yeah the torque is gunna be nuts!!!!! i would want to see if you can keep it reliable with turbo power for everyday use.

Don't Bother with the MSD stuff, or any other ecu. Just megasquirt it. Then you can switch to MAP sensor and get rid of the air flow meter. Completelly tunable. Someone online even makes an adapter to plug it into a stock harness.
