Still on the hunt. Why do people list stuff for sale and not respond to inquiries?

It's annoying as hell, it happens a lot. I'm always on offer up when I'm in different areas and out of 5 inquiries I make I'll only get 2 responses back... On a good day..smh

The amount of times I had this happen to me when I was trying to find wheels is mind-blowing. Luckily it all worked out in the end lol

Well, well. Someone must have been listening! I just picked up a running, driving 05 suburban with a 5.3ls for $850! I can't believe the condition this thing is in. It drives fine, everything works. I mean everything works. CC, Electric seats, heat, a/c, all power windows and power locks. Trans shifts great, 4x4 works. All the lights work. I ALMOST feel bad for dissecting it! NOT! HaHa! I just wonder how much I can get to work on my truck. Cruise Control and power seats are definitely keepers. Will I be able to mod the power windows and locks? First order, will it fit in the garage? Stay tuned!

    Progress report: 20240220_114055.jpg
Yes. I cut the inner fender skirts off and threw them in the garbage. I guess I'll have to make some... eventually!

Oh, it's gonna be a tight fit! Having lunch, Then I'll strip the frame and put it on it's side next to the Opel. Or... Maybe I should rig some pullies and hang it from the ceiling. Over the Opel. We'll see how much space I have when I'm done.
Agreed! That was the plan! Trans and transfer case for sure. Doors look good. Fenders are rusty. Interior is complete and decent. Front bumper, grill, and hood are all good. Front and rear diffs both good. And, yes, all the glass is good too. Whatever is left should get a couple hundred from the local scrap yard. Might even come out ahead on this one. I'll settle for brake even!

The goal today is to get the body parts stripped. Front bumper, grill, hood, fenders, doors and tailgate. Already have the taillights, grill, tailgate latch mechanism and cables, and front bumper sold.

Has anybody tried any of the following: Using GM Hydroboost in our Toyota trucks? What about the steering column? Rack and Pinion? Gauge cluster? I do realize that each of these items will require extensive modification and fabrication. To the frame and cab, but also to the parts themselves. Like I always told my kids, we are only limited by our imagination! In the case of the hydroboost, I'm trying to figure out if it incorporates a brake proportioning valve. Therefore eliminating the need for the LSPV.

Just a side note. The suburban towing capacity is 12000lbs. So I know the motor and trans can handle it. Would love to figure out a disc brake conversion for my axle. I think that is the weak link in my setup. It will probably be back burnered because I am leaning hard towards swapping to GM dually running gear. Mainly for the tires. 16's/17's would fill up those fenders nicely!

I'd definitely go with the gm gears that use the more common lug spec.. gives you freedom of choice on tire/wheel combos. Plus, that gear is rated for 12k lbs unlike the Toyota unit. DNT forget to add chassis support to your plans. Extra torque is more abusive on parts designed for less stress. New correctly adjusted shoes will keep you safe.. unless you plan on some spirited driving or heavy loads where brakes are applied for longer times..

I'm sure you've already recovered about half of what you spent on the sub with those parts sold. You can even sell the entire roof with a/b/c and rear pillar to someone restoring a roll over!

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. The 6x7.25 lug pattern on here is extremely limiting, add to that, 14" wheels. I do need this to be able to haul. Was also considering a roll cage for the cab and engine compartment. Which will tie into my plans for the back half of the frame, to support the bed/hitch design. Focus right now is to get it rolling under it's own power again.
I sold those parts to one of my sons for his 04 Tahoe. So I didn't make much!

Had to get it outside just to get the doors off. I couldn't open the passenger side while it was in the garage!
I stripped all the gear out of the doors. I'm going to make power windows and locks work in the truck somehow.

This is how it will sit for the next three days. Will hit it again Monday! Have a good weekend and Happy Wrenchin!
