Well on mine once I get the flange spinning both axles spin the same direction. I don't know if anything was ever done to this rear end, but didn't think it had an lsd setup in it.

Got the axles tightened up and started sanding. Back to the store for some sanding stuff that will get into the tight spots better! Hoping to wash it off later this evening and then start painting.

Both will spin cause the resistance is the same on both sides.Try holding one of the brake drums as yuu spin the flange then spin it in the other direction to see if it had an lsd.

Finished cleaning/sanding the housing and got a coat of black on it.

Also: Anyone ever replace their filler neck and have any tips as to where to find one? I really don't want to put this rusty one back on when everything else is brand new!

Recoat it in what? I think I may have found a replacement for my filler neck *brand new*, but waiting to see if it works out first.

Got the new bushings in the leafs and started putting them together although I'm pretty sure I did the first one wrong lol! Putting a level across the overload to figure out which side is flat so I can put it back together right.

Also: Always be safe when painting!

Got one of the leaf packs back together, but broke the center holding bolt on the other so going to pull this one back apart and use new bolts for both! It's a constant game of one step forward and six back, but such is life! Anyone know the torque spec for the center bolt?

Well managed to find a bolt that would work for the center pin on the leaf springs *original is like a 7/16 X 1.5" and I used a 3/8" X 1.5" cap bolt.. Rounded head exact same size.*.

Got the leaf springs put back together and to the proper torque spec and primed the drums last night. Painted the first coat of color on the drums tonight *High heat ceramic paint* and going to put the second coat on them tomorrow. Also going to spray a couple other pieces with this stuff in the back just for accent reasons. Ordered some fuel tank sealer stuff from POR-15 that should seal/prevent further rust issues with my filler neck after I clean it up and put the stuff on it. All of the front end parts/pieces should be ordered tomorrow if things go like I want them to!

Got the springs back on the housing and hoping they are straight lol! I guess I will see once it's back on the truck if they're off or not, but shouldn't be.
Ordered some stuff from POR-15 that is supposed to be fuel resistant and stop rust for my filler neck. Planning on getting the neck blasted Friday and coating it that night if I can get it back in time. Ordered most of the front end stuff minus the struts and hub stuff *bearings/seals/rotors/spindle nut*, but plan on ordering that this weekend hopefully.

Bought the rest of the front end parts last night. Hoping the fuel nozzle will be done by 12 so I can put the tank back in the truck and then the rear end!

This joint isn't bad is it? I should be able to get another 100K miles out of it lol!

My Front end on my 85 looks exactly the same when we put it up on the rack...funny thing is you could never tell when you were driving it!

Everything finally came in to redo my front end next! All new steering parts except the gear box, new drop spindles, bushings, and everything else that can be changed! Have to get some rotors from rock auto and should be done.

I had to change the water heater in my house so didn't get around to messing with the truck this past weekend, but after 10:30 tomorrow I'm off for 11 days so hoping to make some real progress.

That's why I wanted to rebuild/replace everything before I put it on the road because of all these same issues from my 85 RIP...

I bought the truck not knowing a thing about it at all. Guy pulled the valve cover to pull the fuel pump and dist for some dumb ass reason! So instead of trying to figure out what was good and what wasn't I jumped in head first replacing what I somewhat knew and then took it even further.

Trust me I know gary lol.... The 85 nearly put me in a ditch when the same part on it broke off! Yep doing this one the right way this time and so much happier that this death trap won't be a death trap once it hits the road

Filler neck painted, gas tank put back in, and rear end in now! Just have to center up the rear end on the springs to make sure it's even on both sides. Then put the brake stuff back on and the rear will be done!
