What are you trying to do with the truck? I'm sure you could piece something together for cheaper. Maybe find someone local tht can build leaf springs or hell even go with big coil overs with 4links front an rear

I orginally planned for just stock suspension, 33's and a new paint job. However, my painter has now filled his orders for the next 6+ months and have the extra cash to spend. I was already planning to get the Hy-steer kit off All Pro Offroad for (I think $400) + $900 shipping, and get the rest of the parts local. Running IFS springs in the rear and rear springs in the front, with an adjustable torque rod, steering dampener, 4" extended shackles and bilstien shocks. As I said the kit straight from All pro doesn't seems decent for the price with only shipping being a major concern.

I went out and ordered a set of second hand 33" BF Goodrich Mud terrains for $400 on Sunraiser rims with -22 offset in Black. I couldn't do any work on the truck today as overnight we recieved 2 inches of rain and another 3 throughout the day. The forecast is rain for 9 days straight.

Ok just so I can understand better. Whats the difference between $400 Ausie dollars and $400 US dollars? That sounds crazy $400 for the part and $900 for the shipping. I thought Guam was bad.

They are vitually the exact same.

    1 AUD = 1.02340 USD

    1 USD = 0.977135 AUD

    ...so

    $400USD = $390AUD

    I hope that helps

    Yesterdays Progress:

    Today:

I reinstalled the front springs so I can get access underneath the engine bay as I only have 2 axle stands and don't trust the engine crane. At the moment, the transmisson and transfer case were unbolted as I was running out of light. I decided to cut down the load bearing spring on the rears I broke the clutch button on the 5 inch grinder so a trip to the shop is needed. I also want to get a sander and alot of 80grit disks.

If you squint really really hard it could be a minitruck:

Now thats a drop.I really like that bed style with the flares and tie down tabs. Do you plan on keeping that bar that sits up against the rear window. I would chop it off but thats me. Good progress my downunda brotha.

I sourced a new motor to replace the L. It is a 2L-TE. The glow plugs mustn't be working as it is hard to start but it ran after the second go. I got a compression test done and it read 500 470 490 520. I ckecked the radiator and thee is plenty of coolant and doesn't have any bubbles. It is also fitted with a turbo timer so it has been coodown properley.

I stripped down the roof and bonnet to bare metal. I also removed what was left of the dash and both rear doors. I also had a trip to hospital because of a 1mm cutting disc failure (metal insert broke on startup) then went to the shop and got it refunded. The new motor arrives in a few weeks as they won't half cut it for me but I am patient.

Nice project. I wish I could find one here in the United States. It'd make a great family hauler. Good luck!

The 2L-TE turned out to be more problems so I got rid of it. Instead for the 800 I got for the motor, I picked up these...

I have two dual cab 79-83's but another guy has already has dibs from the states.

That is actually the route i want to go. Skip lifting it, jump straight into a chassis extension, rear notch and a 2 inch front Z. Just don't tell anyone until I make a new topic for it.

The red '79 ended up being stolen from someone else when the VIN had to be looked into for road worthy. I wasn't fined but I lost a few hundred dollars.
