thanks everyone, i only had a week to finish it before i had to drive back to kentucky and it was basically one of my first experiences shaping metal. i finally got ahold of the previous owner so i will hopefully have the title worked out and in my name soon!

that would be pretty beast, im happy with the original engine even though its such a turd, i believe it only made like 60 horsepower when it was new, so who knows what its making now after drivetrain loss and 28 years of wear and tear lol

well the previous owner is basically refusing to help me with the title, im tired of dealing with it and right now i need a daily driver and by the end of the month i wont be able to drive this anymore, so the truck might be going up for sale soon, even though i highly doubt that anyone would wanna buy it lol but its a really hard choice for me to make, this truck means so much to me so its hard to even consider letting it go

What exactly is wrong with the title? Is it missing or is he refusing to sign it over?

If it's missing, get a salvage title for it. If he's refusing to sign it over, mail it back to him 1 piece at a time.

He's refusing to sign the title over? What a prick! How'd the deal go down in the first place? I wanna try to help you get this sorted out, I'm probably a bit older than you and have bought and sold cars in and out of ky for years. As a matter of fact, my first toyota was bought from a guy in ohio, but the title was in some dude's name in west virginia. ( I used to live in greenup county, google map it, it's right on the border of all 3 states)

However, If you're just itching to work on a mini-in-the-making, I've got 'yota here that could use some TLC! lol! :D

i bought the truck while i was at school in Pennsylvania, while i was at school i didnt have the time or money to insure it or drive it anywhere, so i tried to get a pennsylvania temp tag but they wouldnt do it since it was an ohio title they said i either had to come back to ky to get it sorted out or do it in ohio, if i knew the title had to be noterized in ohio at the time i would have gone with the original owner and got it sorted out but now he wont even talk to me, and im always itching to work on a yota man! oh and dailydragger, 79-83 toyotas are impossible to find here or i would definitely consider another one and swap the diesel over ive only seen one other 3rd gen on the road in my life!

there's a 3rd gen at the pull-a-part on national turnpike. It in the area of aisle 144, it's tan/brown interior.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to handle this. Did he sign the title over to you? Did you get a bill of sale or a receipt of some kind? Do you even have the title in hand?

BTW, did you document the repairs done to truck? If he won't sign it over, you might be able to send him a bill for whatever you paid for the truck.

i do have the title in hand, what i need is for him to do is sign the application to transfer the title to my name, and both the application and title need to be notarized and i figured that can only happen if he takes it to his dmv i honestly dont feel like im asking for much i also dont have much money in the truck only about 35 bucks worth of sheet metal and a radio i can take out as for that one at pull a part, u cant buy a whole vehicle from them, u have to basically buy every part if u want it, or thats what ive always been told, plus i cant get the doors open on that truck lol they are stuck good. thanks for all the help/concern everyone, it means alot really

ok,You have the title in hand. This is good.

When I bought my 86, I got the title from the owner, it was an out of state title. I had to apply for a new kentucky title by taking the old one from out of state to the county clerk's office, and they handled everything. I got my new kentucky title in the mail a few weeks later.

Why didn't you get him to sign the back of the title over to you before you left? That's a LONG drive for a signature and a notary public's embossing.

well he finally got back to me, and he says he will help me, he did sign the back of it, i took it to the county clerks office and they refused to help me because it wasnt notarized and i needed to get his signature on something else besides the title, i hope all of this makes sense, because it sure confuses the crap outa me lol

ok, he signed the title over to you. in order to make it official, it needs to be notarized. Take it to a notary public, and see if they'll do it for you. They should. After it's been notarized, take it back to clerks office. They should ask you what you paid for it, and figure out how much you owe them in taxes. Then you have to pay to have the title transferred into your name.
Note: you must have insurance on it in order for it to be put into your name.

Is the clerks office wanting a bill of sale to be signed by the previous owner or something? I'm not quite getting this part of it.....
