What a whore!!!! Well this is good so in the future you know how to and where to go to fix the problem. Keep it up man
Well, yea, in many ways this truck is totally my b***h. Of course it's the opposite in some ways too...
Installed the PCV valve today and new hoses. Cost me $3 total. Found out while I was testing out the PCV working that the downpipe has a small pinhole leak about 2" below the flange, basically in the weld. I'm not gonna worry about that too much since it probably doesn't make a sound. Gotta do a valve adjustment BAD! Typewriters are quieter..... that's next on the agenda. At least I'm getting somewhere now!!! LOL!!!
it was parked with a blown headgasket for 7 months ??? make sure you change that oil... hopefully you dont spin any bearings ! thats what happened to me 2 times, blew head gasket let it sit and it screwed the bottom end
Nahh I think it was just about to be ugly... the gasket was just old. From the looks of what I found, it was ready to go at any minute. Plus I'd run it quite a bit over the past 7 months, just didn't drive it. And of course the oil is already gone and in my recycle bucket. To be honest, I don't think there's much life left in this motor anyway... I'll be happy if I see 10k out of it... give me some time to find a replacement.
Well the plan has changed, lack of money is usually what drives changes... LOL! - Adjust valves - drill out and tap exhaust manifold and put new EGR pipe gaskets in - figure out the wiper problem - drill out holes for spare tire hoist (yes one day I will get that done) - replace trans output shaft seal - pull center leafs - alignment hopefully the only things that cost $$ are the seal and the alignment. Since I actually have more than one day off this weekend (3 days??? what am I gonna do???) I'm gonna try and get as much done as possible while my daughter is napping or bedtime. None of the stuff takes a ton of time except the center leafs, so I'll leave that one for 2nd to last (might as well do the seal while I'll have the axle up). I'm gonna try for tuesday morning for the alignment, then I might actually be able to drive it to work that day! Well... we'll see. If there's one thing I know about how this has gone so far, it's not to get too far ahead of myself... LOL!!!
If your are close to south everett then I work at the firestone there and they have a brand new hunter alignment rack... we offer a lifetime alignment package which means you pay 119.99 or 129.99 (not sure which) once and as long as you own the truck its free after that ... and there's no limits on how many times you can use it
Thanks but I live in Vancouver, which is about 200 miles away. I'm pretty sure my tires would be toast by then on the current alignment, but thanks anyways!
Actually I hope we can get a meet together pretty soon, if the truck starts to cooperate I'd love to come on up there, been a while since I was up in the Seattle area, plus it's always cool to put a face to the name.
Yeah no kidding i want to go to a meet for the seattle area guys i just got my truck plated and tabbed.... and now I just got to throw a water pump in it and I'm set to show my rust bucket
LOL Progress made.... Got some things done! - Adjusted the valves. not much out, very little actually. Made it a little quieter, but a 20/22R is never a quiet motor!! - Checked out the wiring to figure out why the wipers weren't working. When I went to check to see if the switch worked they just turned on. I can't get them to turn off again, so i am assuming they work until they stop again, then I'll diagnose it. All I know is I went through the wiring and cleaned some connections. I hope that's all it was. - Drove it about 5 miles. Runs pretty good now. Warmed up nice and sat in the middle of the travel of the gauge and didn't move. Looks like the cooling system works. - Brought it back home and decided to tackle the spare hoist. Marked and drilled the holes, mocked it up, put in the bolts and locked it into place. Then threw the spare under the truck and it worked like a charm. Another thing done. I am FINALLY making progress with this thing!!! Monday is alignment time. Then some little crap and I'll drive it to work tuesday. Thank freakin' GOD!!! Some pics of the hoist install. If you haven't read back, my old stock chain hoist was rusted and siezed, so I slapped one in from a '93.
The trip to the dump went well, no issues at all with the truck. Freakin' A that took a long time to get to this point... LOL! Now I have a couple things to take care of. Gonna pull the carb today and fix the throttle blade. That's an easy, cheap one. No biggie. The exhaust is WAYYYY noisy. I'm gonna order that header from Summit and just have done with it. It's this one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-39400/ And I'm just gonna have my local shop attach it to the pipe I have. I'd like to just to 2" all the way out to a new muffler... man it would be nice to have money!!! LOL!!! Alignment is tomorrow. After that it's taking me to work a few days and we'll see how it goes.
Alignment done. MUCH better. Guy complimented me, saying I made his job easy because everything is new. He's had a couple to Toyotas so he was all into it. So I grabbed the header off Summit, and gonna have it put in. Even my wife was like, "that's pretty loud, you're gonna replace that exhaust right?"... guess I'm good to go.. now I just gotta find the money... LOL!! So I'm stoked, I can officially drive the truck as soon as I call the insurance and add it fully on the insurance. I mean there's still things to do but I can drive it safely so I'm gonna!!!!
Success! Oil change, wiper blades, quick look over everything, and took it to work... and no issues. Now I have to do this a few more times before I watch the oil pressure and temp gauges like a hawk as I drive!!! It's a gutless old pickup and bumps me all over the place as I drive, but it's on the road!!!! handles pretty good actually (for a truck).
