The striker on the hood is to far forward for the latch mechanism. Also the supports design gives it less room between it and the core support. So it hangs up on the rubber standoffs. It takes a bit of modification to work right. Definitely not a straight up replacement.
Another thing is the striker is thicker on the rn25s. Does not appear I can make it go into the latch mechanism. Pic of the rn22 hood for reference of placement of the striker.
Last of the parts arrived. Got a little tweaking to do with the tailgate but it's not bad. Bumper will only take a little 2 inch adapter or so. Pretty happy.
Side note the new latches I got for the tailgate pull so tight that in the areas with rust around the hook cracked. Don't think I'm going to have to worry about a rattling tailgate anymore.
Got the hood to latch. Used 2 10mm shallow sockets to push it farther forward. Then I smashed down the top of the support for the latch flat and drilled new hole for the bolt. Seems like it might just be the replacement hoods that have thicker strikers. Might just try to sand it down some. You got to pull it the right spot to get it to unhook. Nearly got it in the right spot. Waiting on some step bits to inlarge some holes to help me line it up. Really need to suck in the fenders so I'm going to weld 10 eye bolts on each side of the wheel wells and pull them in with a ratchet strap. I need to drop about an inch out of the width. Anyway this most its looked lined up in a while.
Those are from autozone. And yes. 5 3/4 is what you want if I remember right. And just so you don't get a broken one pickup in store. Amazon broke one of my lights.
Big day of doing stuff. Cut the passenger side tub for the bigger filters and parched it up. Came out decent. Still need to add my body filler and paint. When I replaced the intake gasket I added some gasket dressing. Just as a little insurance. Got a few more turns on the carbs where they mount to the intake. Then redid the gasket maker on the back of the block for the egr crossover. Think it was leaking because when I first did it I just put the gasket on and wrenched down. This time I did it the recommended way. So hopefully that fixes that. Still need to do my valve cover gasket. I'll get all the dust out of the bay from grinding before I do that.
y'know, I really don't mind the size of that DUI distributor. In such a clean engine bay it really doesn't look super wacky.
If I had power steering it I would need the longer one. I think the shorty looks pretty good. The fact you only need to run 2 wires if you want a tack and your plug wires is nice for a clean look. The funny thing is I have the pertronix dizzy as back up in the truck but I never put the coil with it. Lol Someone mentioned adding some fresh air holes. Now I'm thinking I'm going to add a duct from the front.
Fired it up this morning after grabbing more carb cleaner. Dosnt seem to have any vacuum leaks. The new filters amplify the sound. Pretty much the same sound as open stacks. When I was building it I planned on a little chop at idle like a v motor and the growl of the sidedrafts. I pretty much have that now. Hoping the butt dyno can notice a difference. I double the size of the filter so it should help. Oh and I see the 24hrs of lemons is having a car show down the street next week. It's more official car show then I would like with registration and what not. It's free but it's not like I'm trying to win a trophy so I don't care to. I might pop through in the truck and hit them with the horn.
Had a pretty good scare in the hilux. Cut a radiator hose with my alternator. Big cloud while I was spinning the tires made me think head gasket at first. Had to do a duct tape repair in the grocery store parking lot. It held just enough to make it the 2 miles home. Got 2 new hoses ordered. One as a spare. Didn't get hot really. Was at 190 when I stopped still had water in it. This did make me realize how under prepared I am for a break down. Had to buy a cheep vise grip and plier set.
