truck is down for now, shouldn't ignore a rusty tank, I'm fairly certain the hesitation, serging, and now skipping is due to fuel delivery problems. I believe the crap in the tank has found a happy home in one of my injectors
So whats wrong with it. Clean it out and put it back in. Lets go man theres other stuff that needs to be done. J/K
My nieghbor tried to vacuum a gas take once, my uncle was watching him as he began to insert the nozzle into it, and before he could say woah, POPF, the vacuum cleaner became scrap. The smell other than gas is that of feces. As for someone sabotaging me, It would be unlikely with the lock on the filler door. thanks toyota. The truck sat for 2 years, I think that's what happened, because it was nasty like that when I got it.
When the truck sat up the gas went bad & started to rust the inside the gas tank. Yes it happens, I know cause it happened to my truck. I had to drop the tank-(clean the hell out of it), install a new fuelpump/filter & filter on the block as well.
smctoy, how did you go about cleaning your tank, anybody else that has experience with cleaning a gas tank please post up.
dood, just fill your gas tank with water or some other liquid to the tip top, and pull the drain plug.. repeat.. and make sure it dries and then dump that gas tank repair stuff in it to coat the inside where its rusting.
V8_TITAN, I did that when I first got the truck, but not the sealer stuff, the rust just breaks loose over time and ends up back on the bottom of the tank. After looking on the web a while, I ended up putting a chain in the tank and rolled it around in the yard ever which a way for about a hour. Then loaded it with gravel and rolled for another hour. I knew the chain would be easy to get out and the gravel wouldn't, but I think the gravel is a little more abrasive. Got all the rocks out and rinsed the dust out with water. Then I poured some phosphoric acid in there and sloshed it around, then rinsed with some baking soda and water several times. Put a heat gun in the big hole and waited for it to dry. To my suprise it looked good, mostly bare metal, I could still see small specs of black, but nothing is loose anymore. Put it back in and refilled it with gas and seafoam. No more hesitation / serging, but its still skipping on the third cylinder back. Im getting fire, but not sure if its getting fuel. Any suggestions?
holy crap you took the whole thing out and played with it as if it were a barrel? I LIKE THIS GUY SOMEONE BUY HIM A BEER! injector cleaner may be a nice friend.
Exactly, rolling that thing around gets tiring too, especially for an out of shape guy like myself that's already had too many beers. I put seafoam in the tank with hopes it'll clean the injectors, but I really have no confidence in any, "tune up in a can/bottle", product.
Seafoam does it work pretty well in the intake manifold where it breaks down the carbon and black stuff. As for the injectors, I haven't really tried that. RCEngineering.com << I think that's the correct link... has a good reputation in cleaning injectors for a low price, and a somewhat fast turn around time. There's another company, i'll find them soon. lol, i looked at my xcab's gas tank... its huge...
Cleaned these out with some carb cleaner, put em back in, and no skip, running better than ever. so relieved.
