if your thinking of adjusting the valvles because of any "ticking", try loosening the valve cover. too tight and the rocker arms will contact the valve cover. read about it on another site and noticed that all my noise was from the same thing. back 4 rocker arms had light scaring from the cover being too tight.

Well guys. Good news, and bad news.

Good news first! Took the yota to its first show..out of 100 or so vehicles I got a top 10 award.

Cool, right? Well on the way home the idle started surging up and down at reldights, and the temp hand went way up, only to come back to normal. I was like wtf. I know these 22re's like to surge with low coolant, incorrect timing, etc. But I was confused on this one.

Went home, removed the plugs and peeked into the cylinders. Only to notice when I pulled the # 2 plug, vapor came out..a slow stream. I smelled it, and thought maybe coolant. So I got my hunting spotlight out...2 million candle power! and shined in the holes and sure enough. Cylinder 2 was clean! Freakin steam cleaned!

Pulled the head in 45 mins...and found this.

Guy I bought truck from said he just had the head replaced when I bought it. Liar. Its a long drive, but Id drive to SC to punch him in the face.

New timing chain is at home in the mailbox. I'm on vacation lol. Gonna try to get my dealer to order the head gasket without me being there so it will be there when I get back. Trying to get it back on the road by next wknd. Shows!

Got the OEM head gasket installed. Runs better now that I did that and fine tunes the TPS. Had a issue with the temp running up to almost hot then the thermostat opens up and it drops down to normal. Google "22re temp overshoot" it's really common. I never knew about it.

But I do have a faulty idle up valve. When the temp warms up its supposed to shut, allowing the idle to settle in at 750. Well mine won't close. Idle never comes down. So I plugged the hole inside the throttle body bore and then fired it up and it was smooth as butter. A new one is 200 bucks. So I'm gonna make a block off plate. This truck isn't a daily, only on wknds and stuff. Car shows and what not. So having the idle up so the truck can warm up isn't a big deal to me.

On a lighter note, took it to another car show and got a top 25! 2 for 2!
