Hello, I am new to the fourm and have a 79 SR-5 Pickup that i just acquired. Your build has given me so much inspiration. Just curious what kind of shift know is that? Also i had a question regarding your post about lifting the truck back up after you fitted the wheels and was wondering how you lifted it back up? I figured you were talking about the torsion bars.

My truck does not have torsion bars, I lifted the rear back up.. I had flipped the leaf pack.

I returned the overload spring on the bottom kept the main spring and removed the middle to get it where it
is sitting now, along with the use of a 3inch block.
In a much simpler way I used a 3 inch block and removed the center leaf...

The shift know is a wood knob off internet, Ebay if I remember correctly

Finished the trans cross member today.

Started by cutting the cross member in 3 pieces. Followed by capping the ends

Bolted the center portion to the trans and lining it up to the side pieces bolted on the frame.
welded it all together and relocated the hand brake cable bracket.

Thanks for your response. I am in the process of trying to lower my truck, and just wanted to know how your ride quality is with the tokico shocks, reorganized leafs, and blocks and mightmax springs. I am looking at Doing drop leafs, mighty max springs and kyb gas adjust shocks. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Is there a particular thread pitch for our shifters, so that I know which shift knob to get?

The ride quality is 'ok' Ive had better. I think the lowered leaf pack would give you the best ride.. kyb are alright as well. I prefer tokico and the body is a tad bigger. I used air shocks in the back in case I load up the dirt bike..

I don't know of the top of my head on the thread pitch.

Ditched the ol ****ty shift booty, Got the new shift booty
    [IMG]

    Installed the new shift booty
    [IMG]

Fabricated a simple battery box to accept the new highlander/ smaller battery
    [IMG]

Installed the new battery box, As you can see the ol acid did a good amount of damage

Shifter thread pitch is the same as the lug nuts 12x1.25

mighty max are the way to go. either stock or 3 inch drop. and you have the info on the shocks...

Light update, Got the second ac hose shortened, bought a few misc plugs and started on the exhaust.

Front pipe was easy.. I'm trying to do something wild with it so it may be challenging.

Finighing the wiring tonight and exhaust, Might be firing tonight?

Well when i say i still need the info for the shocks, i am talking about shortened vs not shortened? Like for a 3 inch drop, are shorter shiocks needed? Because i dont think the kyb or tokico's are considered "drop shocks" like i see people talking about the toxic shocks and bell tech nitros'. And as far as the mighty max springs, how much of a drop do the stock springs give? I can imagine that i will have a hard time finding some used. I thinking im going to take your advice on the mighty max springs and drop leafs.

But on another note, your SR5 is sweet!!!! you have came a long way Since March. WHat is your ultimate goal? I was wanting a 1jhz turbo, or sr swap, i think it would be a fun truck then.

No one made drop leafs for the 2nd gen. Unless the leaf packs for the newer models swap in

{jetas} Same measurement of leaf pack by belltech for the 79+
center to center and mount point as well.

There's not need for drop shocks.. I've put my recipe on multiple tread on here. And picture of my mighty max in comparison to oem stock

My goal was just to build a nostalgic jap truck. I don't keep vehicles to long. So we'll see what happens with this one. I think a drift missile is next.
1jz, 2jz don't fit in our truck, unless you hack half the firewall, redo the front cross member and the trans tunnel.
Sr swap of f20 be cool. Mine was to nice of a truck to cut anything.. I wanted to keep it as valuable as possible and original (in a sense).

I'd love to 4 link the rear and coilover it, lock the rear diff.. It will all depend on how I like driving it in the next few months.

Thanks man, There's plenty more to do but My goal this week was to get it rolling on its own power.

I'm really not experienced with side drafts so it's shown to be quite the challenge to tune them things.
I also don't have any contact that really knows them.. I've printed the mikuni book and been studying.
So far it's only improved since first start up but still chasing the perfect tune.
