Has anyone ever tried a generic PS conversion kit replacing the smog pump with the PS pump? No idea if this is even remotely feasible.
Power Steering - 1976 Toyota Chinook/1976 Toyota HiLux Pickup This is the power steering assembly I have on my Chinook, base of course is a 1976 Toyota HiLux long bed. Adapted (probably) from the 1981 thru 1988 series Toyota HiLux 2WD pickup. I did not do the initial install of this assembly. I did however have to have replaced the power steering pump, and had a hose manufactured, in 2021 after the power steering pump went south during a road trip out to Kansas. It was relatively expensive to have it done and I do not mess with hydraulics at all. The shop was a bit confused at first because the 1976 Toyota HiLux did not have power steering standard. The previous owner had done a lot of mods, including adding the power steering, which I believe had come off a 1983 Toyota - that was of course the key to getting it replaced. The steering box is really close to the header, like millimeters, but there never has been any contact. The pump is just under the distributor. Some top views to include the fluid reservoir, and underside to showing the steering assembly. Hope this helps.
