it may sit like the factory 14" in the front with the 7" and +40 offset. a spacer may help. you can do that all around with the 17x9's. what are they?
the mounting surface is really sketchy. i'd rather just have someone reweld the centers further in the barrels
are they multipiece wheels? try to polish the lips first and see if there's a place you can stick notecards or paper in between the spokes...

play with some offsets too. 10" wheels are do able. a 1-2" flare wouldn't hurt. someone here has 8-9" wide wheels with 0 offset and they don't use...
