i had a explorer that did that, and it was the fuel pump...autozone/checkers etc doesn't rent timing lights..i know cuz i just checked..i picked...
just because of all the minerals in tap, you can build scaling n gunk up on the radiator..especially if you have hard water..i used to run tap...

just keep an eye on your gauge and check your radiator from time to time..did you use hose water or distilled? hose/tap water is bad!!
I wouldn't put straight water in it, it could boil off and cause your truck to overheat, not sure how hot it gets where you live but the purpose...
