    You get a white powder like film when it's exposed. Even coolant will cause it to do it. Seems like raw aluminum is worse then sanded or polished.

    I've always liked a sanded or polished valve cover on these motors. You do have to fight oxidation but I haven't been having it to bad on my stuff.
