Spent a couple hours playing with were to place my final cut...
I removed the second set of bed mounts from the frame, I realized they would keep the gate from dropping even if the cut clears them
The forward most bed mounts look like I can use as more body mounts for the extension
The string you see in the pics is pretty close to the final cut line...
The roof lines up but is not as wide
The side panels are too wide so I will have to fab the side panels
I am planning on cutting up the front doors from the 4runner to get the right shape with the dent line already there

Dude. I just had a brain spark happen. Since you are cool with the fatty pillar look, what about a bit triangle panel that is a seperate part look like a window louver. Sorta how some of the old mustangs were. just taller.

Here is another thought. Why not just use a topper?? Keep your bed, just use the back part of a topper??

U'd get all most the same result but 10 times less work. Fiberglass is easier to work with. Gets rid of the body line problem. Move the back wall of the cab back to where ever you want it. It would be like all most doing a walk through. But all the sheet metal work would be inside the bed. You'd retain some use of the bed. Plus no need to do fiberglass bed sides or anything crazy. Kinda think like a really short trekker top.

Then cut your topper so it functions and stuff. The topper would sit flush to the roof and solve alot of problems. Another cool thing you could do is since you move the back cab wall and stuff, you could make the topper removeable, almost like a Jeep. Half convertable.

Actually would look cool. On second thought don't do it. I want to do it now.

The best thing about having a mini truck is we get to do whatever we want to our trucks....
Your idea is interesting and actually one I considered, I like what I'm doing and at this point unless it all goes to hell I plan on following through.
I had actually planned on a full walk through with two bucket seats in the back, have the seats, cap, and a 84-89 4runner roll bar to put back there, even removed my front bed wall and sealed the bed to the cab, but decided I didn't want to do it and after many different ideas I came up with the 4runner graft...

Oh and I'm glad you said "On second thought don't do it. I want to do it now."
Cause I was thinking something like that about halfway through reading your post...! (8

    A little progress

I had cut up two 4runner front doors to skin my extention with...
but now I am probably going to cut the first part off a bed and use it to construct my cab sides....
the extention adds 11 inches and it is 11 inches fron the front of a bed to the wheel well of the rear axle
So if I double bob the bed it will be 22 inches shorter (or more if I bob the back extra) so the bed should be 50 not 72 inches long

Anyway, I got the floor almost ready for welding, when the time comes I actually get my new welder.
I really worked out nicely how the back wall has that center indent, the bracket for the gate spring fit perfectly in that spot, and the way the floor support lined up with the back cab wall to make an L bracket to connect the back wall to... almost like I knew what I was doing! LOL!

The seat position is perfect! I can finally sit back as far as I want to!!

    Here's some pics

    Just up on the lift
    [IMG]

here you can see how the floor lined up
    [IMG]

check out how the seat leaned way back lines up with the new back window location

    LEAN BACK!

that weld nut holds the gate spring bracket

The U channel supporting the runners floor ended up cut into an L bracket and it lined up perfect with the back wall
    [IMG]

got to hit all this with my new sandblaster!
you can see how well it lined up

are you gonna but your bed back on?cuz i was thinking you still can if you trim of a portion of the 4runner back half and seal up sum of the gaps from the inside of the bed to the runner back half.make it look like a 1/4 shell on the bed.just sum thought's,looking good tho.:waytogo:
or dont cut the hole tail light part out and use it as a support to the bed and cover the remaining gaps from it.

Keeping the bed and bobbing the front part
The cab will look alot like an extracab would when done and the bed will be mounted just like normal but shorter...
